Is the S550 a disappointment?

so Chevy only sells cars at MSRP huh? if that's the case i would never buy a car from them, ever.

i dont like paying a dime over invoice price, but prefer to pay 500 - 1000 below invoice, like i paid for my mustang and my wrx using truecar.com

Well, good luck getting a new 6th gen camaro for below MSRP at a dealer.

only time will tell how much below invoice u can get a 16 since it's not on truecar yet

well i got my 6th gen mustang at 500 below invoice when i ordered it in august of 2015, before they even started building job 1 cars. then i got an additional 500 cash back at delivery with the black friday 500 cash back incentive....

Base for base the prices aren't too different. Once you start adding options that are standard on the Mustang then things differ. Having to get the RS package if you want HID headlights (standard on GT) adds like $2,000 by itself, for example.

And yeah right now you can get a hell of a deal on a 15 camaro since they aren't being made anymore.

edit: i know exactly what u mean about adding options to get what u want. i remember when i bought my 11 wrx in 2011. best bang for buck for 24k, right? wrong. i paid about 30k for it at 500 below invoice, because i had to get the limited trim just so i can have HIDs. didn't need the moonroof or leather and whatever else it came with. oh and i added Nav because i wasn't aware of how superior Waze is on the iPhone compared to it back then

I've been a GM guy my entire life and didn't consider the Camaro after I compared prices. I work for Ford and with the A plan my GT with all of 3 options dropped to around $29-30K. I priced out an SS with comparable options to what my GT came with standard and the price was pushing $40K.
I could throw $10k of parts into it to equal the price and it'd be flying off the road.

Well you have to compare MSRP to MSRP. I could change this and say you work for Chevy and get their comparable plan vs a GT at MSRP.

Obviously they're going to deal on the cars sitting on their lots now. Sales have dipped considerably with the new model looming. You won't get that deal or anything close to it when the '16 hits the dealerships.

that's pretty obvious, it wont be 3600 below invoice, but more like 0 to 1000 below, which would still be thousands off of MSRP

I have been following this thread for a bit, so this is what it has ended up at? You're disappointed by a car because some other car is better or cheaper?

I would suggest at looking what you have instead of what you don't have. And then ask the question again if you feel 'let down' in any way, by the s550.

PS: If you don't own one, don't even bother to try and answer that.

It sounds like you put way too much stock in what other people think. It's ok to enjoy what you have even if it's not "the best" which is impossible to quantify anyways.

:ford:Its all about preference and what you think is the most important attributes of the car.For some its performance ,& for some its style . The price is sweet for what you can get in the car as well.The styling and driving comfort sold me on the design. Now add what Ford did to the performance , you have a sweet rounded ride. Overall the cars is a winner not to be sold short by any means. I owned two S197 supercharged, highly modded GT's before my 15. The 15 was a major step foward in all areas for Ford. Customer satisfied.

Would you rather have your expectations changed now or be disappointed in January/February? Ford is certainly working on a significant refresh, including powertrain updates. They won't deviate from plan just because of the camaro. Real work takes time to do right and 3 years is the time needed. Ford has no incentive to overspend and take a lot more risk by compressing their schedule when they're handily outselling the competition and bringing in a lot of sales from outside their usual base. They have more than the Mustang to worry about, and diverting resources away from those things to bring a S550 refresh to market faster hurts Ford overall. Keep in mind that the Fusion, Focus, Escape and Explorer sell in higher numbers than the Mustang does, not to mention the F-150 (which shares a lot of the powertrain and its development).

Well here's the thing...do you know the refresh date and timetable? Just asking. You don't have to reveal anything. But from my view and keeping up with most auto companies, most are on a 3rd year refresh schedule now.

Real work does take time. They've been working on the transmission years. Fascia refresh is not a lot of time. I do think that the Camaro coming out and the reviews are getting has to make the Mustang team anxious and want to come out with some nice updates.
