Just wondering, seems to be very reasonably priced from a well-respected manufacturer:

http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?prod=63-2589

As the (unfortunate) owner of a California Emissions vehicle (in a state other than CA), just wondering if anyone knows why this one is a no go for CA emissions :frusty:

you have 6 years before you have to smog it, buy whichever one you want!
LOL, in Oregon, our DEQ test is DMV plugging into the OBD II port and verifying no active codes :-) As long as it doesn't make the computer throw a code, I'm good to go

Also, in Oregon, a new car gets 4 year registration tags. I have to take it to DEQ in 4 years...then every 2 years again after that.

my bad I just assumed you were in California. I don't see why you would have any problems putting that on a CA emissions vehicle. The CARB approval allows people to use a particular product on their vehicle making it not fail the CA visual inspection.

because they didn't pay CARB the money (lots of it) for them to certify it
Kind of Ironic:

From the about on their homepage: (http://www.knfilters.com/kn_engineering.aspx)

"K&N Engineering in Riverside California is the world's leading manufacturer of washable performance air filters and air intake systems."

If I were a K&N employee with an ecoboost 'stang, I'd be ticked :p

Well.... it's not made of hemp, doesn't emit oxygen like a tree and isn't biodegradable... not shocking CA doesn't approve.

LOL

I think K&N gave up on the CARB process for new products. Too expensive and lengthy now to jump through all their their bureaucratic BS

K&N releases the 63 series of the kit while they await the C.A.R.B. certification. If for some reason C.A.R.B. does not certify it, it will remain a 63 series, otherwise it will be re-released with the certification.

C.A.R.B. is a PITA and it takes FOR-FREAKING-EVER to get thru their approval process and I assure you K&N has not given up.... in fact, far from it.
