Ok so I have been running the MAP turbo kit for about 10K miles, and its running as advertised, however I am not really digging the intake noise, if anything its a distraction to me. I think its because it is not as clean sounding as I would like and the volume overshadows everything.

To add that the BOV replacement I was sent from MAP to replace the original TS Vee Port is super loud, I think its a supersonic smart port from TS, they use it on the EB F150s. Since this is my daily I expected the sounds but the combination of the two is getting old hehe. I can deal with the BOV but the CAI is just overkill, just my opinion on it.

Great under hard pulls but not just driving to get coffee at 25 MPH lol.

What I was thinking was taking the stock airbox, cut the tube at the flex portion and cutting the MAP CAI tube and clamping them together. There is no real restriction with the stock setup and it may clean up the noise.

Has anyone else done this before?

Stock air box is the way to go !

If your unhappy with the sound I think your best bet is to just put the whole stock air box back on. I'm sure you wont be losing any power

Scott Wilson has used the stock airbox with the MAP kit. He posted some pics of it a while back on the Facebook groups.

Yes, that idea is starting to take hold with big turbos.

That might be a really good application for the Big Mouth RAM air duct ($120) and GT grill ($130, ebay). Possibly also a drop in panel filter, although it remains to be seen if you loose top end HP with a drop in filter when tuned, I know the factory PCM software does not agree with the higher flow...

But Ford Racing sells drop in panel filters with all of their 2015-16 GT performance packs. I'm thinking the Big mouth, GT grill and drop in would be as good as an CAI or even better with modified cars. Cost is about $100 less and would certainly be a much less warranty risky modification as it would still also look completely stock (drop in filters are never warranty risks). Then again any PCM software other than FR or OEM is a risk...but I digress, just throwing out ideas.

I'm really liking the this stock air box and ram air intake idea :-). It's efficient and that's what I like about it as the stock box really seems well designed, the issue is more so in the ducting right behind the bumper.

I have timeslips that prove the factory PCM software agrees just fine with the higher flow....

I've always been surprised with how many people replace their pressure relief valves with vent-to-atmosphere BOVs. I dig hearing the sound whenever someone else drives by with one, but I'm pretty sure if I had to endure that constantly in my own ride I would blow my brains out. To each his own, I suppose. :p

Since I am in Florida I drive with the A/C on most of the time and I cant hear it in the car with the windows up. Other people approve though. I get a lot of thumbs up.

The BOV was part of the kit I really did not have any optional ones to choose so, and to be honest, I believe the diameter of the stock airbox pipe at the flexible joint is the same as the MAP intake tube I think.

Do not get me wrong guys the jet engine sound my car makes under WOT is fantastic but its louder than I want it to be, and I am not picking if my car is stealth quiet or loud as F$%#K, but I do commute and the BOV and turbo spool coming from the exhaust in conjunction of the exhaust note is enough, but I would like to have a composed sound from under the hood, and trust me the big sucking sound from the filter is crazy loud...

I did see a post from someone who did exactly what I am looking to do so. The only thing I have to check on is if it will interfere with my methanol injector which is on the intake pipe below, but the injector is at an angle and hopefully the tube can clear it.

Also the MAP CAI is not an easy part to remove, and the filter is not pleasant to get at where it drops into the fender opening, its only easy to take off and on from under the car with the underbelly cover removed.

I think that cutting the CAI tube back to where the stock intake would connect would also make it easier to remove that pipe in the future which at the moment requires moving the coolant reservoir or doing a Chinese puzzle thing with the intake to fish it out.

Completed my stock box mod, it came out ok, but the engine compartment noise is so much cleaner, the i4 does not have a lot of grunt on the intake side its all air and whistle noise, and its super loud with the aftermarket turbo setup, its not quiet, no loss of power by the feel of it and you can still hear plenty of turbo spool through the exhaust and BOV noise but just cleaner. I ordered a second intake tube to replace the one I cut up just so I can could the entire complete stock unit in case I go back to stock for trade ins or whatever.
