It is a minor annoyance in a fantastic car. Overall, I'm very pleased. I will switch out for RP Synchromax transfer fluid soon and hopefully it will help somewhat. Either way, I'll continue to be happy with my car. We are all lucky to be able to have our rides. Try focusing on how awesome it is instead of crabbing about the little things that aren't perfect. Cars aren't perfect, but neither is life.

thud didnt go away with my Royal Purple fluid or MGW install. MGW may have reduced the duration of the thud. I dont really hear it anymore with my audio setup :D

The thud will be there forever. Its not going anywhere and its not hurting a damn thing. Gen Coupes also do this thud thing. Its a combo of drive line slop. Get use to it. Its a very minor annoyance.

Can't believe I read almost every post :frusty:

2015 GT PP here with 6k miles on it now and the thud is there and noticeable. Lots of good discussion but if it is internal there isnt much the aftermarket can help in this case. I dont mind it so much but it has been noticed by everyone who has been in my car already. Ill try and remember all the manual cars Ive had so far...

1984 Celica No thud
1997 camaro ss No thud
1993 corvette No thud
2001 Camaro z28 No thud
2002 Camaro SS No thud
2003.5 E46 M3 No thud
1994 Corvette ZR-1 No thud
2006 VW Jetta No thud
2009 Mazda 3 No thud
2007 VW Passat No thud
2004 CTS-V No thud

2015 Mustang GT THUD

Beating a dead horse I know but I love the car even though this thud should NOT be there.

My .02 on the topic was going to be if the Trans is transmitting the thud through the tunnel.. How about a thin washer or damping material between the trans brace and the chassis?

Brand new car here and noticed this "clunk" noise as well. Happens mostly going from neutral to first gear.

No one wants to actually read this thread. The thud will never go away. Wait for clutches and lightweight flywheels to become available then it might help.

Mine is doing this and it seriously bugs me. I'm trying to learn to live with it but I didn't think I'd have to worry about something like this with any new car, much less a $40K one.

I went back to my salesperson and asked if I could drive another car to see how it did. I did and it was barely noticeable. If I hadn't experienced the MUCH louder thud in my car I'd have never noticed it in this other one (a non-PP, 3:31 GT).

I took the service guy for a ride and he agreed it is not normal but would have to check with Ford. They told him to drive another one at their dealership and compare. He says he did and it does the same thing so it's "normal". I feel sure Ford told them to say/do this since he told me to my face initially that it's NOT normal.

I'm trying to decide whether to fight or try to learn to live with it. I'm inclined to do the latter since apparently no one here has been successful in getting rid of the sound.

I have noticed it is far, far worse with the windows down (oddly). I can probably learn to ignore it with them up but man with them down it almost hurts my ears! Sounds like a big subwoofer turning on!

I love manuals (have had 11 manual vehicles in my life none of them made a noise like this). Such a shame because the car and even the tranny is otherwise great. Almost makes me wish I'd gotten an AT.

Lol that's exactly what it sounds like! Let off the gas a little later than you normally would between shifts to have a bit higher revs at the flywheel. Works wonders for the thud. My car now has about 2k miles and feels like it's a bit better? Maybe I'm just driving it differently. Clunky trans or not, this car is awesome, hope you enjoy it. Overall ride comfort and noise level in an frs or brz is soooo much worse, so this really isn't a huge problem.

not sure where this thud will take all these cars but a friend took his GT with 736 miles into the dealer and found metal in the filter thus determining the crank was moving around during shifting. New engine on the way.

Mine will be going to the dealer soon.

What were his symptoms? Your saying he brought it in for this complaint only and determined it was his crank moving around? I would think if the crank was walking the engine would have worse symptoms then the thud that many experience will no Ill effects. I had the crank walk on one of my old 4G63T Eagle Talons. When it would move it would put pressure on the crank positioning sensor and pulley and the engine would mis-time itself. The engine would fall flat on its face and shut off sometimes. Then the bearings went to complete shit. Not saying the coyote is setup the same way but I feel he would have had other symptoms besides this for them to get to that diagnosis.

Yep, symptom was just the thud. They pulled trans, couldn't find anything wrong. Pulled oil filter, found metal.
