350R VS Z/28

Just read that also. No way the Z28 comes close to the R for driving enjoyment and lap times, at least the current one. The next one however who knows.

I still don't think there's going to be another Z28. I think they'll try to make the new ZL1 the all around car, replacing the old ZL1 and Z28. I see no future for a large displacement and/or high power NA GM engine.

Unless they employ force induction, GM has to use displacement to keep up with the little 5.2. It's sad how all these years GM has been having to fight 4.6's and 5.0's and 5.4's with all the displacement they use. That's not saying much for efficiency but as the guys said in the 70's there's no match for displacement.

Z/28 - $75K (now heavily reduced)

For the $18K in disparity between MSRP for the TP vs Z, you could fine tune it a little and still come out way ahead.

Not really, because faster camaro's are on their way. Same ls7 in a lighter six gen camaro would be deadly. If gt350 or 350r can't surpass fifth gen z28 after all this, then it is a total epic fail on Fords part. There is no way out of this!

They won't be putting the LS7 in anything else. It's going away for good for 2016, thanks to emissions. I hate that, as the LS7 is one of my favorite engines ever. GM scrapped plans for a new 7.0 replacement and went with the supercharger for the LT4 in the C7 Z06. That's why I don't see a new Z28 in GM's future.

I, for one, couldn't care less if a Camaro came out with 1k hp and all wheel drive and a carbon chassis... As long as the gt350 gives a current model porsche a run for its money.

It may be a crappy way to look at it, but the old Z28 won't pass the emissions goals that the GT350 does either. As emissions rules get tougher to adhere to, it's going to get tougher to build NA performance motors. I'm amazed that they even made the Voodoo happen.

But aren't those rules as an aggregate? Across all vehicles Ford produces?

I dont know, thats why I am asking, but thats how I always understood it. So in the case of a manufacturer that sells as many cars as Ford does…a limited run vehicle should be relatively easy to do.

I believe that applies more to gas mileage. Emission toxins have to be under a certain level no matter what.
