For those with the S-Type and ATAK exhaust, at what RPM's do they really start to wake up(get louder)? Worried about morning start up. Also been looking for Borla sound bite using an H-pipe instead of X-pipe.

Thanks

I have the S-type catback, and it's significantly louder than stock on cold startup, but not too bad at all on startup when it's warm. When driving, the sound is nearly always present. It doesn't drone, per se, but it has volume. Cruising on the highway in my car (GT PP) results in the car being between 2000 and 2500 RPMs or so, give or take, and you can definitely hear the exhaust. At first I was worried that it would become tiresome, but I just got back from a 4 hour road trip, and it wasn't bad at all. Perhaps I've just gotten adjusted to it.

During "normal" driving, I'd say the sounds really "wakes up" around 3,000 RPM or so. It definitely has some rasp to it, which seems to be most prevalent starting around 4,000 RPM. Obviously, the H pipe you're looking into should eliminate that.

Hope that helps!

I agree with what Dragster said 100%. I would love to go louder but the cold starts are very loud and I live in an apartment. Driving around town if I decide to gun it I've had people tell me they heard it 1+ mile away. But cruising below 3k isn't much louder than stock

if you're worried about cold startups, get the touring or the s type.

i like the way Borla S types sound, but not really fond on the X pipe as well (sounds very raspy up top)...does anyone have any H pipe setups with the S type axleback? I found one video on youtube of a ruby red one, but can't seem to find any others.

Windows up you don't hear much rasp if any at all. Windows down you hear some rasp up top at high rpms. But its not annoying rasp. It still sounds good to me. But oddly enough more so when the car is cold. I have experienced that once the car or mufflers are warm the rasp is reduced quite a bit.

I have an S-Type cat back. It's definitely really loud with the cold start. If you don't live in a single family home, your neighbors will hate you.

But driving around normally it's fine. You can definitely feather it around the cops and not get any unwanted attention.

Anything over 2500 is pretty loud, anything over 4500 is really loud (and a bit raspy if you got the x pipe).

My dealer had agreed to throw in exhaust in my deal... I had requested Ford Racing Sport by Borla and they decided to put the ATAK on instead. It's insanely loud on cold start. Very low RPM it made a ton of noise. Getting on it at all was insanely loud. It was pretty fun on the highway, but way too much around town. I had the exhaust for about two weeks while I waited for Ford to order the correct exhaust. I never thought I would have an issue with exhaust being too loud so I called Borla and spoke to a rep and asked him to compare The Ford Racing Sport to ATAK and he advised that the Ford Racing Sport is very similar to the S-Type and is much more tame than the ATAK.

I have now had the Ford Racing Sport for a week and while it may be a bit loud on cold start up, after 20 seconds when idle lowers it is a nice grumble and not very loud at all. It's definitely not stock and can be loud when you want it to be, but you can also cruise around and get on it without it being too much. At higher RPMs when really hitting it, it'll make a ton of noise but I still like it.

I have had H pipes on all my previous setups so I am definitely also interested in seeing this set up with an H pipe. I have never really been a fan of X pipes, but this current set up without any other mods sounds very good.

There is nothing "a bit raspy" about the S-Type; above 3500rpm it is raspy as all hell. I like the system but it isnt quiet, you always hear it inside the cabin, it doesnt drone at all, and you always hear it on the highway unless you're under 60mph (with 3.73s). Again, I really like the system but dont let anyone convince you it isnt loud LOL. It is loud everywhere, at all RPMs and flat out obnoxious above 4k.

If you're cruising at 65 mph (1700-2000 rpm) is there so much drone u cant have a conversation? I have MBRP race and its loud and great except u cant hear anything at the daily driving speeds. Thinking of keeping my H pipe and just buying the Borla S mufflers.

the exhaust has no drone at any RPM (ATAK). u can barely hear it with windows up, even while going WOT. the car has great insulation. that's why i had to go from FRPP Sport to Borla ATAK, because i barely heard that exhaust.

Do you have the full cat on Asharus? Just wanting to make sure if I buy those it will eliminate the horrible drone these MBRP Race have.

Well... True that it is hard to hear in the car with the windows up, but with windows down even at 3,000 RPM it is very, very loud. I live by a bunch of tall buildings so going down the street I had to short shift and be very soft on accelerator to draw too much attention. It's interesting that we chose opposite. I went from ATAK to FRPP Sport. The FRPP sport still has a nice sound to it and when you get to higher RPM's it does sound similar to the ATAK. I like to "race" people from the line sometimes at red lights and it was just too noisy to go full RPM's with the ATAK but with FRPP Sport I don't have to worry about every cop within a 2 mile radius hearing me.
