Supposedly doing the trim.

Got this from google of a basic upfitting process:

The upfit consists of six main components: painting the chassis, mounting the service body, installing the LED lights, welding the hitch, and installing the cab guard and ladder rack.

So where do our cars fit in? Aren't they fitted with trim on the assembly line? I've seen so many shows on Foxtel about manufacturing just about every brand of car that you can think of and I have never seen one show where the cars were not fully assembled with all components, including one on our Mustang. Something doesn't add up here.

No clue. Maybe those shots were on the upfitting line, post build? Who knows...

I'm sure we'll all have our "1st batch" rides by Feb/March 2016.

The exact reply I received from Ford US when I asked the question was "The upfitters just adds the small accents for your country."

Correct, we're not getting the chrome surround, I confirmed it with Ford PM's on FB a few weeks ago.

This is why i'm also beginning to think the Oz market cars don't get the Euro 'custom pack' treatment inside the cabin, closer to the USA premier trim (chrome surround in europe was part of the custom pack).

The lack of seat colour choices also makes me think we're getting the coarser grain black leather seats, rather than the [nicer] finer grain.

Time will tell I guess :shrug:

As Aussie MustangGT said, most the work done is assembly line. for example, the chassis, doors, boots, are painted before assembly in all major car production facilities. Parts rolled in to a room, sprayed as a whole part, then rolled out to assembly line. No this isnt part of upfitting.

Upfitting is about making the final custom order additions. Since we have none, but it still must be made ready for transporting. Like the Euro ones we have seen with those complete covers.

Maybe the upfitter is to remove then put on ebay all the parts they removed.. just to make some extra cash for ford au

Made my own little comparison for you between your listed stats and mine. I did however get an Ecoboost Convertible Automatic so there are other differences too, but I selected the Custom Pack. There seems to some minor differences (apart from me apparently NOT getting a handbook )

Specifically;

• With interior pack
• With level 3 door trim panel
• High Intensity Discharge Headlamp
• Branded Audio Sound System

So it seems there are indeed some interior differences to the EU custom pack and yours - and apparently also in the headlamps Most of the other differences I guess is due to GT vs Ecoboost, MT vs AT and coupe vs convertible.

Edit: I forgot the seats...
Interior Colour: Ebony Interior
Interior Fabric: Natural Grain/Ebony

Which part confirms we're not getting the 'premier' seats? I was only guessing, is there something that actually confirms this?

Also, what the hell is 'fixed rear vent quarter window' vs. 'electric rear quarter window'???
