Any avid bikers plan on getting a hitch receiver?

Installed the curt hitch this morning.

Install went smoothly aside from almost poking my eye with one of the fish lines.

Took about an hour with 2 people doing everything by hand with the wheels on ramps. Mounting seems solid enough. Haven't stuck my bike on yet, but doubt there will be any issues.

You can definitely seem the hitch, but honestly I don't care.

thanks for all the posts guys. it certainly stands out but dressing it up a little when not in use with a cap of some sort is a nice option. when i (probably) get my GTPP i think i may do this for bikes and a little track-wheels trailer. i installed one of the invisible hitches on our SUV (where you can quickly/easily detach the actual hitch attachment) .. hopefully they make one of those for this car as well. the esthetics is one thing, but i'd also be concerned about scraping it when going up steep approach ramps and such. i'll be sure to check back here for the installation tips/tricks some day!

Some of us enjoy the ride to the bike race or trails as much as riding the bike itself. Also, I don't feel like dealing with owning 2 cars.

No way in hell I'm wasting money on some POS car just to haul bikes around and pay insurance for it on top of that. Nothing better than a sick ride home with the top down after riding all day

I have another vehicle (old SUV) that I can haul bikes on/in. That really isn't the point. I also have a hitch receiver on my Mustang so I can also haul them with that. As others have noted, its entirely feasible that someone might want their bike and their Mustang on the same trip. Its worth noting, however, that a 1-1/4" receiver on an SN-95 car is almost completely invisible if there's nothing in it. The bumper is shaped such that it makes it hard to see unless you get down on the ground. Unfortunately, the hitch appears much more exposed on the S550, which is a negative. I'd probably get one anyway.

Oh, FWIW, the people that I know that are "truly dedicated to riding" just ride the bike & have no need of a car. Everyone else has varying levels of interest, but not what I would call "true" dedication. Hell, I've got somewhere on the order of 4 dozen bikes, but only would consider myself an enthusiast...

I ride and I have an extra SUV that I use for my bike trips and daily driving. Cash SUV and liability insurance is cheap. Works on two levels. One my mustang doesn't get all the miles racked up and I can seriously modify it without worry. Two, I don't have an ugly bike rack hanging out the back of it. Which the SUV and my insurance is probably cheaper than some of the bikes I'm seeing on here. I'm only offering another option so you don't have the ugly bike rack on the back of the mustang. That's all. Sheesh.

Has anyone see any other solutions being worked on? The current hitches seem to be very visible. Much more so then the last gen mustangs.

My last car(Honda S2000) someone created a hitch that had a removable receiver/ part so that it could be installed and uninstalled with pin's when not in use.

I'm not looking to tow much weight (just the bike rack and a road or mountain bike)

I installed a Curt Class I trailer hitch on my Premium Convertible. The bottom valance is black and so is the hitch. You have to be looking for it to really notice it. However, I had to buy a longer extension to keep my bicycle from sitting to close to the rear bumper. The extension is not very robust so the bike carrier does bounce slightly.

I've been holding out on an S550 because of the lack of a hitch available. I ride 10k miles a year and NEED a rack for my car. I go to races where i bring my time trial bike and another bike to warm up on so trunking it is out. Plus, my mountain bikes are big and a pita to take the wheels off of because of thru axles and a Lefty fork. The seasucker rack is nice but if your bike gets muddy it will drip all over the car. Trunk racks suck because they do damage the car's paint, no matter how careful you are.
I have a hitch on my 2012 and I ground off the chain hooks so you barely see it.

....and damn, 400 bucks? My Hidden Hitch was 100 bucks.

Can you fit your bike in the trunk with seat down?
