The Prius, in my experience, tends to attract the same people that are drawn to Apple computers: those who want to invest a minimum of effort into knowing how the stuff they have actually works, and not really interested in what it can actually do ;) Funny, the day I came home from the dealer with my new 'stang, I ended up having a chat in the grocery store parking lot with a guy who had a new red Prius (still had its dealer tags). I spent less on my ride than he did  He was, of course, drooling over my ride, and was turned off the second he found out that I had a manual transmission ;)

i bet 90% of prius owners dont know that manual trans even exists.

Fixed it for you. ;) The Prius has been ranked one of the most reliable cars on the market for a number of years now, and is arguably the most efficient in terms of economy for its owners in its price point. I would argue that is more of the reasoning.

Not to defend the Prius, because I hate them -- IMO the Prius is one of the biggest scams of our time, and while they are good for their owners, are really not much better for the environment than our Mustangs. In regards to the drivers, here in CO they are environmental good Samaritans and act like road rule vigilantes.

Sorry about your car OP -- I avoid Prius drivers like the plague because I have had too many close calls.

I guess my wife and I are in the 10%. We both drive our Prius (family and commuter car) and manual GT (backup and fun/weekend car).

It is true that there a lot of speeding Priuses in the Bay Area, but that is probably because there are just a lot in general around here.

And I will say I have had exactly zero problems in over 3 years in the Prius. No engine problems, no panel gaps, no rattles or squeaks, no wind noise, nothing. It is boring to drive, but top quality.

I think its now official too, Prius owners are now equal with BMW owners as the biggest Prick$ on the road. I actually really like hybrid (and more so pure electric cars like the Tesla) but even around here, Prius owners are the ones blowing 85mph in the city freeway zones (60 mph).... and I saw WTF to that, why would you own one to drive like that and defeat the entire purpose.

Ya, you can get < 20 mpg in a Prius on a long trip, I did so once with out company's Prius that I drive ~200 miles in one way to a remote office.

every prius driver I see is doing like 90mph whipping in traffic lol

sorry about your car man! Hope it gets fixed soon
They can actually go that fast??
Anytime I've had to ride in my brother-in-laws 2015 Prius, the damn thing struggles to go past 65mph on an freeway on-ramp! Like maxed power and everything! And no one in the car is big or anything either!

I was driving to the airport on the tollway and this prius was tailgating me so I let it pass. Couple minutes later I got hit with a laser detection but didnt see a cop. Over the next hill I see the cop and I see him getting in his SUV - FVCK. So I see him come up behind me, lights off still. I change lanes like coolsville daddy-o, but he doesnt follow me and keeps going up and guess whos in front of me - the prius. Then boom lights turn on. OWNED.

My buddy has a 2015 Prius and kept saying how electric cars aren't fast and the Prius is so much better than the LEAF. Then he saw my tesla.
Tesla's are great, and electric cars have the potential for incredible performance.

The Prius will get to 90 MPH, it will just get there sloooowly. It will also not be very safe at that speed (brakes, steering, suspension, tires just not designed for that speed). I've taken our Prius up to 80 MPH to pass someone, but that's the max I'll go even if speed limits allowed it. Pretty nice being able to drive from SF to LA and still have 100 miles to empty though (and that is with a 10 gallon tank).

I love Prius'. The more gas they save the greater my carbon footprint!
and I love electric motor driven cars but I hate batteries.
