Stereo base 4.3" head unit upgrade: Ideas? Plans?***

Check this out! Found it on ebay. They are fitting the screen in front of the OEM circuit board like I want to do. By far one of the cheapest options out there. I just wonder how well/bad it works.

That is a really good find there Zack. I am wondering about it myself now I am going to contact the seller see if they can provide more information on screen resolution and etc.

EDIT: NVM seems if I would read it is located in the post. I am not sure how I feel about Windows CE being the OS. I might give this a shot.

CE 6.0 is actually rather stable and used as a basis on many GPS and Radio units. The question is the custom coding and UI on top of it.

All we need is something like this but with phone mirroring technology or CarPlay/android auto. It would be perfect. This plus CarPlay would be literally perfect.

Really? I am just asking I thought a lot of people abandoned CE for android OS. I think I am going to pull the trigger on this for the cost and the 30 day return policy.

Android just offered more in terms of features at a cheaper price for mobile platforms. That is why many phone manufactures switched! If you do go ahead and do it you have to keep us updated!

Verrrrry interesting. I would LOVE to replace the base radio in my new v6. Its the only thing about the car that is a set back compared to my previous vehicle, and makes me feel cheap when I am inside and slightly embarrassed when others are in the car

I agree. The thing with this is to also mention that it looks like a lot of the other basic/generic chinese units out there. I have a Carplay 2012 for my GMC Acadia. It looks like the Avent OGM1 unit that was the most popular replacement for GMC vehicles. It basically gave all of the features of the standard unit while looking and acting exactly like a OEM unit would look. Its been great to me so far.

I'm tempted to think that this unit is a Clone of the RAXIOM unit that was supposed to be released this year. According to facebook and american muscle this was to be the case. I would love for someone like you to get it and put it through the ringer..

If it works well it would be great to organize a group buy and get these things a few bucks cheaper

I really depends on what is required to integrate carplay/android auto. Do these companies have to pay to integrate it into their products? Apple has always been a fan on this. (ie Made for iPhone accessories)

I actually don't WANT a GPS solution for the Mustang. I want a CARPLAY solution. The thing is that I don't really like the GPS solutions presented in todays cars. They are extremely slow, jittery, and loose signal at the drop of a hat. The same can be said for cellphones in rural territory but most people tend to purcahse service plans that reflect the best signal in their territory. Most cellphones also cache the diriving directiosn and use triangulation and AGPS to continue tracking when signal is lost.

A carplay solution means you can use any app you want for GPS and also take full advantage of your phone's features to track other paramaters via bluetooth.

That Raxiom info came from the Raxiom facebook page. I asked specifically when it was coming out and they said summer this year that it was in testing. American Muscle also said the same thing. I didn't get my hopes up because ETA's from manufacturers are about as useful as a spoon if you were asked to empty the ocean.

That is why I have actually looked into building my own nav unit. I really have not seen any aftermarket unit that I like. With my own unit I can select the best program for windows and use that as my basis. This might end up being another project of mine after the toggle switches.
