STI vs GT handling

between a 2015 GT (w/ or w/o) PP vs a 2015 sti, which car does better on a track and handles better. Also which one stops better.

track, lateral g, braking, slalom, etc...

and would a ecoboost PP beat out the sti as well in the same areas.

not to concerned about power levels bc we all know those already. all stock for stock cars. I like turn cars better than straight line cars.

Sti's have a tendency to understeer. Also, RWD requires alot of skill. Depending the level of skills you possess.

I know, ppl on here will favor the mustang, bc that's what this forum is. but there may be reasons one might pick the mustang, even if it handled worse for reasons that its a mustang. but if both cars were a blank canvas as far as looks an and power. only opinions on handling characteristics is what im after. im a fan of both, having owned 4 mustangs including a 12 boss, but with the new platform of both cars, some things may change from the past.

I cross shopped these and I think overall handling in any conditions goes to the STI, AWD makes it easier to throw around a track. The track type will be a big determining factor, asphalt has been an enemy of the WRX and STI in the past, the new one I think had overcome this greatly and can hang with others on asphalt. With a twisty, low speed, track I think the STI had the advantage, but I'd think the speed of the track may be a bigger factor for it too in order to keep the turbo spooled. If the track is higher speed with larger straight aways I think the GT would be able to overtake the STI pretty easily. Get off asphalt or talk about less than optimal track conditions the STI will have an advantage as well.

EDIT: Also with the comment about RWD being more difficult is important as well, AWD makes it easier for us average, or below average, drivers to turn better times. A skilled driver may be able to squeeze better times out of a GT. But driver mod aside the STI has advantages more severe twisties and less optimal conditions (wet, cold, dirt, etc), I think.

With an equally skilled driver behind the wheel of both I cannot imagine the STI would ever turn in better lap times than a GT PP. Unless maybe you are talking under inclement conditions. Or I guess if you are talking rally racing...

First off, "handles better" means different things to different people. To some people, it's feel/balance. To others, grip. To others, laptimes.

To try to answer it as objectively as possible, let's look at competition classing. SCCA classes "stock" cars for autocross as follows, GENERALLY (though not always exactly) listed from fastest to slowest:

SS (Super Street)
AS (A-Street)
BS
CS
DS
ES
FS
GS
HS

The 2015 Mustang GT/V6/EB are all classed as FS, while the STI is classed as BS. Again, not a totally linear relationship between classes, but generally, BS is quite a bit faster than FS.

2014 isnt a fast as the 15.

Since ive driven a 2015 sti and have had 4 other older sti as daily (weekend cars are mustangs) id like to weigh in. My current daily is an 07 sti. Ive driven the base gt and a pp the 2015 gt with pp does handle better and is faster. I do agree with what has been pointed out in less then ideal conditions the sti is faster and for someone with beginners skill its easy to go fast.

if you plan to drive the car year round and see snow in your state id get an sti if it will be a daily. If its a weekend or great weather (no snow) gt pp hands down. The gt pp will always be faster for less, straight line or road course. Both are GREAT cars. i love my sti's. It snows where i live I cant imagine driving something else year round for a daily unless it was an evo.

If you look at the 2014 results the Mustang GT was 2 seconds faster around Virginia International Raceway in Car and Drivers lightening Lap than a STI.

The 15 Mustang is a much better handling car so I would expect at least the same difference or greater in the Mustangs favor.

Well youll be happy with both. One probably more then the other but its down to what you like. You really need to drive both. the sti will be a bit harder to test drive. Its hard to find one in a dealership long enough. Plus they arent fond of letting people drive them very often. I only was able because a friend has one.
