Stock vs Stock, mustang gt all day. The only fun part is launching that sti at high rpm with the awd. I heard bad stories about the reliability if you do that though. With the current competition if you can order one, Ford Focus RS is the new king of hot awd hatchbacks. But even that car is not as fast as the mustang gt. Ecoboost Mustang vs Subaru STI would be a better comparison.

So I went against an STI for Touge Battle style 1 mile long course similar to an autocross. Here are the facts:

2013 Subaru WRX STI
Manual tranny
Tuned to 300whp
Sedan
KW Coilovers with Achilles 123s Tires with 200TW
Lap time: 1 minute 8 seconds

2015 Mustang GT Premium
Auto tranny in Track Mode
Stock tune. Roughly 370whp
BMR Performance springs with Bridgestone RE71R tires with 200TW
Lap time: 1 minute 9 seconds
Wonder what would have happened if the Mustang had a good driver.:D

Have had 3 Subarus, 07 STI, 11 WRX and a 15 WRX, they need to ditch that damn EJ motor already and come back with a 400+ hp car.

I run autocross against a lot of Subbies. We usually have more than a few of the Flat4LV guys show up to local events.

We have a couple of STIs that run in SM that are well over 500HP and set up to run in SM that are driven by very good drivers. They beat me regularly in RAW times at least. We also have a bunch of heavily modified (but not to SM levels) STIs that run in STU. They do not generally beat me.

This past Saturday, the local autocross was a good example. Very tight, short, technical course. The kind that lends itself to Miata's and S2000's and the kind that is not friendly to big heavy cars.

For a reference point, the best time of the night was a national podium level spec Miata driver who turned in a 37.223 RAW time in a ES classed 2003 MX-5 that is prepped for national level competition.

The SM leader ran a 2008 WRX STI and a time of 39.224 RAW on BridgeStone RE-71R.

In a bone stock 2016 Mustang GT PP in FS I ran a 39.715 RAW time on stock Pirellis.

Only 2 of the STU guys got into the 39s at all and the rest of the pack was over 41 seconds RAW with a variety of setups and mods.

Driven properly, the Mustang can certainly hold it's own against STI's on an autocross course.
