That said, Im not sure its worth ordering a Touring Edition and selling my S Type just to cut a bit of loudness. Its not obnoxious by any means and it has a really muscle car type sound to it that fits a Mustang GT well.
I'm pretty sure there is no difference in the Axlebacks that come with both systems. They are both Borla part # 11887.

Part # 140629 is the Catback exhaust that comes with all pipes including X-Pipe and includes the Borla S axlebacks # 11887.

Part # 140589 is the Catback Touring exhaust that comes with all pipes including the mid-muffler (resonator) and includes the Borla S axlebacks # 11887.

Part # 11895 is the ATAK Axleback and that IS different then the S type.

If you feel your sound with the MRT H-Pipe and Borla S type is a little loud I would first try removing the MRT H-Pipe and put the Ford OEM mid muffler resonator back on. Then see how it sounds. It might be similar to the sound of the Borla Touring edition.

S type and touring mufflers are different
I don't think they are different. Check out the PDF files attached.

140629 - Cat Back S Type has these mufflers
RH Muffler = 55553
LH Muffler = 55554

140589 - Cat Back Touring has these mufflers
RH Muffler = 55553
LH Muffler = 55554

Weird. In the Borla video during the Touring Edition section (starting around 3:18) you can see the inside of the muffler and in the S Type section (starting around 4:14) its totally different.

Heard the Borla S Type with stock resonator was too "muffled" from various posters. I was going to try it first without the res delete H Pipe but went all in after reading those posts.

Yes the mufflers do look different in that video.

The part #'s they list in the video are 140589 for the Touring Catback and 140590 for the S type Catback.

I went back and checked the parts list for 140589 and 140590 and they list the same mufflers (RH# 55543, LH # 55544).

Not sure what the discrepancy is between these part numbers and the pictures shown in the video.

Attached are Materials list for 140589 and 140590.

Here is a crappy video with my iphone as it falls mid shift. WOT gears 1-3 with windows down. I need to get a gopro mount and do this again but at least you can hear the general sound. It actually gets better after the camera falls.

Ordered and installed the Borla S Type axle-backs last week, part # 11887.
Had stock exhaust with resonator removed and MRT H-Pipe installed.
It was way too loud for me with H-Pipe. (That's just my opinion. I felt like it would wake up neighbors in the morning for sure and it seemed too loud for music or conversation also.)

Decided to take out the H-Pipe and put the OEM Ford resonator back in. The axle-backs were now toned down enough for me to enjoy them.

Here’s how I would rate volume levels on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is stock exhaust and 10 is using MRT H-Pipe with Borla S type Axle-backs:

1 = stock with Ford axle-back and Ford resonator
4 = Ford axle-back and MRT H-Pipe (noticeably louder than stock)
6 = Ford resonator and Borla S Type Axleback (definitely louder than H-Pipe with stock mufflers)
10 = MRT H-Pipe with Borla S Type Axleback (a lot louder than any of the aforementioned scenarios)

A couple of other notes:
I was not sold on the sound of the Borla S Type right off the bat and thought maybe I made a mistake with these. I was hoping it would be deeper sounding. It has a more mid-range note then I expected and has a bit of weird uneven raspy gurgling sound when letting off throttle at certain times…but I’m getting used to that.

I now have about 300 miles on them and I think the tone is changing (either that or it’s psychological and I’m getting used to it). But I think they are not as loud now…toned down a bit. I am wondering if carbon build up inside the metal might be insulating them a bit and making them sound different, now that they are close to broke in.
Also I think I’m starting to like the sound of these more and more (but still wondering a tiny bit if I would have preferred a deeper sound). I’m holding on to the H-Pipe in case I decide to try it again later, see if the axle-backs really are toning down a bit, where I could try the H-Pipe again.

One more note of caution:
I wanted to check in to the possibility of ordering the over axle pipes and resonator that comes with the Borla Touring kit part # 140589 (just to clean up everything and have it all Borla).
This kit also includes the S type axle-backs which ship separately as part # 11887 (which I ordered).

Borla must be knee deep in red tape because they say the only way I can get the Borla resonator and over-axle pipes is to have them made custom at some ridiculous shop rate.
So the thing is they make all these parts: Resonator, L/H and R/H over axle pipes, L/H and R/H S type axle-backs and then ship them as 140589.
AND…the same L/H and R/H S type axle-backs can ship as part 11887.

So when I call them I say why can’t you take 14089 and remove the (2) axle-backs and sell them as 11887 and then sell me what’s left in the box for 140589….the resonator and over axle pipes?

They say NO they can’t do that, absolutely NOT!
I don’t get what the problem is unless they have some computer system that just locks them in so bad they can’t be flexible at all.

But that’s the deal…I asked them twice and am giving up. So the warning here is ask yourself if you would prefer the touring because it will be too late to get those parts if you want to add them later.

For me I will stick with Ford pipes, OEM resonator and S Type axlebacks, which I figure is probably close to the Touring kit sound anyway. But I did want to let people know that Borla says it’s impossible to sell those parts separately (without a custom order), in case anyone changes their mind later.

I need to add one more thing to this. I got these from Beefcake after sending him a PM and getting a forum discount from him. It was such a good deal that I am not sure I am allowed to post public what price I paid! Do yourself a favor and send him a PM if you want to get a killer deal.

Have not heard the Borla S type catback (with X pipe) in person...only my MRT H-Pipe with Borla S.

If you have not seen this video by CJ Pony Parts it is a good indication of Borla S Type Catback. You might compare with some of the videos posted here that have the H Pipe with Borla S.
