Thats what painters tape is for...The car will get rock chips no matter what unless it never leaves your garage.
Clearly. I'm not oblivious to that fact I was just making a statement.

I still haven't ordered yet (will call dealer back on Thursday) but I'm lucky I was able to find a dealer near a normal drive I take to visit family anyway. Although out of state, not terribly out of the way and definitely won't mind he drive home!

In fact, I was thinking today "if ford offered a pickup service like MB or Porsche I would totally fly to Michigan and drive the car back" lol then I realized that may be October or later and that might suck...

Why would you ship a car? Aren't you buying the car to drive it? What better way to get a true feel for the car and learn it by driving it from the place of purchase to its final destination.
Because I live in California, and the dealer i bought from is in MD....delivery date is probably sometimes in Nov. The combination of weather, distance and time is why I am opting for delivery instead of driving her home myself. When I bought my M3 i drove her back from Dallas, but that was in the middle of summer.

+1. 526HP, 305 wide summer tires only, crossing the rockies AND sierras in the winter? Yeah I will pass.

Not to mention it would cost almost as much factoring in the one ticket to chicago, im sure it will get dismal gas mileage, a few nights of hotels, eating out, stopping for the first oil change, and likely time off work? :headbonk::headbonk:

Ive always wanted to do that too but then I think about all the rock chips it would get.
You think it won't get them anyway? First time you track it, unless you tape it up, you're going to get paint damage. It's one thing to neglect your car, but it's another thing altogether to think you can prevent normal wear and tear that comes from driving a car.

This is how I drove my new GTPP home from PA to GA. About 970 miles in total. Not one rock chip, ding, etc.

Yes, but they can also be minimized with a full clear bran (bumper, hood, mirrors, rocker panels).

If you guys think driving 2000+ miles, most likely in the winter, over 2 huge mountain ranges, in THIS type of car, then by all means, have at it. I will give you all friendly bro taps

Donner pass can be wicked even in a 4wd suv with ATs..have fun on summer tires

Hell yeah! I've done that with Mercedes and it was a great experience.
I guess Dealers prevent it for any Ford, if true, I say that's a shame and a crime.

Yeah I suppose you don't need the snow tires where you live. You could detour south of the mountains, though.

The second half of your post sounds like an awesome road trip... and you're buying a GT350 and worrying about gas mileage?? Come on!!

Agreed. It's hard to have that attitude with a brand new car, but just drive it, have fun and let go. Yes it will get chips, dings, etc. but it's part of using a car. How much fun is it if you're constantly worrying about slight cosmetic wear?

No way I'm driving the car from Indiana to Miami haha. Bunch of high way miles for no reason.

I texted the salesman who sold me my EB and asked if they had any GT350 allocations. He said they did and they would let me order one. He said as soon as they had confirmation he would let me know. Not sure if there will be a markup, but I have a feeling there either won't, or it will be minimal.
