My stock Ecoboost doesn't sound...at all. I don't hear anything from mine or any other I've seen that's gotten on it. All of these catbacks and mufflers don't sound good, granted but that's not my concern.

And I'll tell you this, when the numbers for he EB came out, comparing it to the 05-10 GT was one of the very first things I was interested in. Basically the same damn car speed wise and light years better in build quality, interior and ride comfort.

Just for sound the 4.6 wins. I don't care if an Ecoboost catches me. Just the fact that he is listening to a fake sound and turbo whistle and I'm listening to a true V8 growl, I win!!
So you'd rather be all show no go pretty much, I love how this post carries no logic. "Yes I prefer my 5-speed 4.6l v8 because 'murica and sound instead of a newer car that's a million times better in every way but god forbid someone catches me with my small penis in a fast 2.3" Acting like turbo sounds are a bad sound, so sad.

What?

I'd take a 3V over the Ecoboost any day of the week for autocross. The RPM range most used in autocross is where the Ecoboost motor is weakest (4000-7000) and a thrust analysis based on the torque curves and gearing show the Ecoboost to be slower than a 3V there.
Partly true. The EB is strongest from 3500 - 5500 RPM. On the factory tune, though, north of 5700 RPM just stinks. Short-shifting is the best strategy for this car. In fact, when stock, I would get shitty times in my automatic if I *didn't* use the paddles. I think this is why some testers get crappy 1/4 mile and 0-60 times -- they are testing the automatic, and letting it shift itself, which is normally GOOD, but not in this case. One of the first things tuning shops change on the car, with the automatics, is the shift points and shift pressure. That alone makes a world of difference. Of course, that doesn't do anything for the manual drivers -- but still, the manual drivers should be short-shifting.

Weight difference is still pretty substantial... an 05-06 Base GT will come in around 3350lbs, possibly less depending on fuel level. You are looking at upper 3400's to low 3500's in an EB Mustang. About the only advantage they have is a better weight distribution but really the EB wont be useful until Street Prepared for Solo because of the weight disadvantage and the fact it doesn't really make much more power than a 3V.
True. Although the chassis and IRS make up a lot of difference here. Having driven both, the S550 chassis and suspension setup is miles ahead of the S197 GTs.

As for the Ecoboost? I test drove a Premium EB w/ PP and while you could tell the car was more agile than the GT/PP I also drove, the engine was underwhelming. I'm sure a tune that ups the boost would be a huge benefit but isn't Solo legal to tweak boost directly until E-Street Prepared. A tune is legal in Street Touring but the boost tables can't be altered at all. Turboed cars get the shaft in ST.
Which is a shame. Tunes really make a substantial difference with this motor. It's *typical* to see gains of +30-40RWHP and +80-100RWTQ. I think the EB is a better weekend canyon carver than the GT... but in all other things, including autocross, the 5.0 GT is better, for the reasons you stated. The 4.6, in autocross, on the other hand... I honestly don't know. I'll defer to others on that. I can definitely see what you're talking about, though.

I've never understood this fetish for sound. Yes, V8s sound meaner. But is it worth losing a race for, or paying extra for? I think not. As long as you don't stick a f*cking fart can on your 4, it's fine.

People who put fart cans on Hondas, on the other hand, need to be dragged out into the street and shot.

I'd rather own the Eco tuner

despite the fact that it sounds like a "Ricer," it is nevertheless an outstanding tunermobile.

All show no go?? Ha! The '10 GT depending on the driver has recorded 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds. That's a no go?
And yes, I prefer my 5-speed 4.6 V8 a millio times to a turbo whistle 4. I'm all or nothing. At this point I can't afford an S550 GT with all the bells and whistles but I wanted a Mustang ASAP so I chose a V8 Mustang over a V6 or I4 S550 and also wanted the old muscle car experience with the 4.6 because of its exhaust sound. In a couple of years, I'll be able to jump to the S550 and rest assured is going to be the GT PP. Certainly no 4 banger for me in a Mustang!!

The 4.6L 3V is all show, no go.

A modified Ecoboost just ran a 12.3 @ 108. Altogether it was around 2500 bucks. That thing RIPPED through the 1/8th, then fell off on the last 1/8th. Still, it ran as fast through the quarter mile as a Boss 302. Please try to tell me how the 4.6 could compete with the Boss LOL.

First, I'm not a racer. I'm 34 and I can care less if I lose a race. Also, is not only about the exhaust sound but the sound of a V8 as well. It doesn't matter if you put the best after market exhaust out there, you can't replicate the sound of a V8 in 6 or 4 no matter how much you try!! Also, I've been ask countless times if my stang is 2015!! Love my purchase decision!!

Good for you. Personally, I've never said "well, I like this car, but the exhaust doesn't sound good, so I can't buy it."

What's absolutely bizarre, sir, is that you're fundamentally acting exactly like the ricers, just with the opposite stance. Ricers sit there all day, worshipping high-pitched, loud exhaust. They love their 4-bangers and sixes, and think the V8s are for dinosaurs. It's stupid, but that's what they do. You're doing the same thing in reverse.

Some of us are agnostic about these things. You have good, fast 4s our there, and good, fast V8s too. Some 4s are dogs, and so are some V8s.

Ford gave us both a great V8, and a good turbo-4. Don't like it? Good for you. Now, wanna race?

In all fairness, some folks have pushed the 4.6L 3V into obscene territory, too. But, they probably spent more than $2500 to get there. With used S197 4.6 GTs being as cheap as they are now, though... it's not an entirely unfair comparison.

The 4.6 is a good motor. Similar power as our Ecoboosts, but very different modding path. For a 4.6, it's a go big or go home situation. Either stay stock or build the motor up to be a monster. For the Ecoboost, the bang-for-your-buck sweet spot is tune + bolt-ons. Does real good with that, too.

LOL! I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way the most modified 2010 Mustang could in any way resemble something that came out in the last several years let alone the 2015 Mustang. I've ALWAYS loved mustangs but come on, the 2010 is not a winner in the looks department

4.6L is only good until about 450WHP reliably, and the trans can be shaky at that point. Some people have had them pop, some have made tons of power off of them. That is a difficult platform to build cost effectively. I would know, I tried lol.

2010 is the first model year of the Coyote body style, except it had a 4.6L in it. Either way, the only people who would get them confused are people who don't really know Mustangs.

Again, I'm not a racer. If you win, good for you. I will still enjoy the V8 sound every time I drive her!! Eventually I'll be switching to the S550 but in the meantime I didn't have to waste my money on a 4 Mustang!! I just couldn't bare the whistle sound on a Mustang. GM got it right of making the turbo 4 their entry level Camaro.

Actually you're right I was thinking about the 2009. 2010 isn't near as bad but still does not at all look new or like it would be a 2015
