That was the same way it was with my Audi's too. If you find that thread, I'd be interested in reading through it.

I've asked several techs about the flash counter and/or flash detection, and they've always told me the same thing that I initially mentioned above. I'm not arguing that there isn't a flash counter, so please don't mistake anything I'm saying for that, but I'd just like to have more a concrete knowledge of what actually goes on with the ECU in regards to flashing.

One tech described the process that they go through if a Mustang with a blown engine comes in and he said that a Field Service Engineer almost always comes down and they look first for the P1000 code. He said that he's never heard of or seen a FSE look for a flash count, and also said that they've been through quite a few blown Mustangs. What he said has also been echoed by others that I've spoken with.

Too bad there's not a Ford FSE here that we could ask some more specific questions. If you find that thread, please let know. [emoji106]

Agreed...at the end of the day the dealer/Ford would still have to prove that the tune was a direct contributor to failure but having said that it's pretty tough/expensive to fight their opinion.

It's one of those games that I think really depends on the dealer as well. Some dealers seem to be "mod friendly" while others don't.

I still plan to put a tune in my car once I'm past the first oil change and roll the dice.

I think the real concern would be if you are in an serious accident with another car and you are in track mode. The black box can be used by police and might get you in a law suit.

I have a warranty question that iv seen a lot of different answers on maybe some information from our ford rep would be great. If you use launch control/ line lock off the track; which is frowned upon I know that already. would your warranty be voided. Lets say for arguments sake I own a abandoned run way not racing anyone.

Here is a checklist:
1. Is there an explanation on how to use Line Lock or Launch Control in the manual?
2. If #1 exists, is there a warning not to use it in the manual?
3. Is there any mention of using either feature in the Warranty Booklet?

If 1 is yes, and 2/3 are no, then using the feature voiding the warranty is hearsay only. If this were true then there would be red stickers all over the place explaining it.

In addition, why would a manufacturer take the time to build a set of features into a car and then tell you that they cannot be used? This is like buying a jar at the store full of candy that you are told you cannot eat them.

Long story short, unless there is proof of this warranty void issue it does not exist. Salespeople saying this does not make Ford policy.

It would also require the dealership to go into the "black box" and cross reference the times you used line-lock with your exact GPS coordinates and then they would need to go research and see if there is a track at that location.

Not realistic

Great answer but it seems like it is a gray area that there is a lot of guessing with. I wish it was as simple as a yes or no. well if they can prove it then its no if they cant then yea. is it based on the dealer to dealer or the manufacture.

This is where I stand on the issue too. That's like voiding the warranty if you use cruise control.

Manufacturer.

I think the sales people are told to tell this to the people going for test drives so they do not hot rod the car and the sales people actually believe it.

If the manufacturer had any intent to void the warranty they would make you accept a screen when you push that button. The manufacturer would also not be making videos showing the feature in use without a warning to not do this at home!

call your dealer and ask them, but ultimately it probably wont void it.

I work at a ford dealer. They don't know anything lollllll.. I trust more what I read from people on this thread/ ford reps that are on this thread rather then service guys. They just submit it into ford and they say yes or no.
