Actually the sales guy was a genius. He was planting a testosterone seed in your head. You can buy this car but DO NOT push this big red super fast button!!!

He probably closed you within 10 minutes after saying that lol.

I read somewhere in my owners manual that if you break your car while racing they can void your warranty. How they check that is beyond me I like to push my car all the way sometimes and if it breaks it breaks thats what the warranty is for. And if you are dumb enough to admit you were racing when the car broke then you deserve to drive a prius.

Basically my salesman was an idiot.
I actually have found some of the new 2015 Mustang owners are bigger idiots where I live. First example is a guy who bought a bumble bee yellow v6 Mustang. I asked him about the car and was adamant that his v6 was pumping out 450hp 500 torque stock. The second was a v8 mustang owner who actually believed his car came stock with a super charger that allowed him to race lambos and ferraris and was getting 30 mpg because thats what the salesman told him and they sure never lie. The last example is a salesman I dealt with when I went to go test drive a ecoboost mustang, I asked the man where he had his ecoboost mustangs in stock at so I could look he kept taking me to the V8 models. I asked him a third time he goes "Son Ive been selling mustangs for 20 years, theres no such thing, now get off my lot if you are gonna waste my time". :headbonk::headbonk::headbonk:

Haha. Did he even show you the V6 Model or was he just a purist. I'm sure he would change his mind after test driving the boost.

Wow - I must have gotten lucky. The few dealers I went to were very knowledgeable and provided accurate information. If they didn't know, they checked with someone more knowledgeable. Before ever looking at cars, I always educate myself first. I then ask questions as if I'm ignorant. The salesman's response in both accuracy and attitude are factored in my decision with where I will do business. The only warning I was given in reference to track mode and line lock, was to be prepared to spend money on new tires.

meh, it really varies depending on the dealer. my car was having issues starting for awhile, got towed once was "fixed" and then later on i tune my car. 2 weeks later similar issues, and the dealer was courteous enough to still fix it even though it was tuned. and that my friends is how a dealer gets references and repeat sales.
How did the dealer know the car had been tuned? I'm wondering if they are going to start checking for tune on every warranty claim.

Bruce

It comes up when they scan the car, there is a number presented that corresponds to how many times the ECU has been flashed. They don't have to check for it exactly.

This happens with every, single, tune. Don't be duped by tuners that claim to have zero footprint in your ECU because that's not possible.

Have you witnessed this firsthand? I'm just curious because I've been told by three separate techs now that Ford doesn't have a flash counter, but rather after the ECU is reset by an external source, aka tuning device, that it sets a P1000 code in the ECU that can be seen by the IDS software. I was told that the code only goes away after the ECU has been cycled 5-10 times (basically turning it on, driving 3-5 miles, turning it off, and repeating).

I've not witnessed it first hand with Ford but have read plenty of very convincing text to the contrary.

Coming from A tuned VW before I bought my stang I know for a fact that with VW the scan tool records the ECU flash and your car is automatically assigned a TD1 warranty code which equal no power train warranty going forwards.

There is a good thread on here someplace that talks about tuning and what the dealers do/do not see I'll see if I can find it.

This!
I ask them questions I know the answer to just to see how slimy they are!

To the OP, track mode doesn't void a warranty but racing it will. Racing however, is not a HPDE or track driving, but racing with other cars on track. Cages, fire suits, special licensing... not something you're going to do accidentally. Something much more likely to get you is your street insurance not covering track damage. Cracking a car on track will never get a police report and the insurance company will lay that right at your feet.

That was the same way it was with my Audi's too. If you find that thread, I'd be interested in reading through it.

I've asked several techs about the flash counter and/or flash detection, and they've always told me the same thing that I initially mentioned above. I'm not arguing that there isn't a flash counter, so please don't mistake anything I'm saying for that, but I'd just like to have more a concrete knowledge of what actually goes on with the ECU in regards to flashing.

One tech described the process that they go through if a Mustang with a blown engine comes in and he said that a Field Service Engineer almost always comes down and they look first for the P1000 code. According to him, the P1000 is a dead giveaway that a car has been flashed. He said that he's never heard of or seen a FSE look for a flash count and also said that they've been through quite a few blown Mustangs. What he said has also been echoed by others that I've spoken with.

Too bad there's not a Ford FSE here that we could ask some more specific questions. If you find that thread, please let know. [emoji106]

Juben here is the thread, it's one of the stickies in the technical forums. It speaks to the ECU having a perimeter I'd labeled FLASHEVENT that records the number with no way to undo that tag.
