How much would you pay to own the first 350R and take delivery in Dearborn handed the keys by the CEO?

Sticker...

Honestly I wouldn't be interested, as having numero uno would prevent me from enjoying the car. I'd end up leaving it under a cover in the garage.

^I second that....not worth it to pay more than the given MSRP to have a car you'll never drive.

Not at all....it's for charity. So think about the enormous tax break after this is donated.

Wealthy people...not rich people....but wealthy people... do these tricks to shelter their money.

Now if this was a wealthy playboy or Sheik's son that bought this.... and they went out the next day and beat the crap of it.....

I would applaud them.

No. Cruzinaround nailed it. It is all about being seen...people knowing you bought it...the money spent is NOT an issue for buyers at that level. 15 seconds of fame..... a "kick"

Whoever won the auction won't get the car until production starts.

Yeah but you know....who cares if the car is 001 vin number at a gas station when your pumping gas....and if you said yeah it vin number 001, and I paid a million bucks for it, they would think your lying or just "stupid-rich"..emphasis on stupid (if your driving like a normal car)....No one cares except a collector...

Really makes you think about how being financially Rich is different from financially Wealthy.

And of course how you attained that fortune.

If you worked hard to get there... you don't spend like a stupid person and pay in the millions for a car worth a fraction of that...it would just amount to an illogical purchase.

If you take that amount and donate it then at least you can claim it in your tax returns and keep a good chuck of it sheltered from collection. Which would mean the purchase of that auctioned car for charity isn't really all about buying the car. Its about buying a tax umbrella.

Then there's the glory of saying you bought it. Odds are it gets donated to a museum in honor of some charity...then at some point in the future sold off to some eccentric for a private collection. If that eccentric doesn't already keep it at the initial charity auction for a private collection. BUt, I'd bet that all that individual's financial advisers would be shaking their heads at how stupid their employer is.

Just like we would at why some one wouldn't find some revenue generating investment to put that million plus dollars to and instead place it on a depreciating asset like a 70k car.

Having lots of Money makes some people ...retarded.

As has been for the last few years, #1 of any special or limited edition car will be sold at Barrett-Jackson for a mil+ to a guy who owns a corporation. He'll need the charitable deduction for taxes and will buy the car there as a way of doing that. The proceeds will go toward curing some disease. Some poor kid will be wheeled out in a chair who has the disease. Everyone will shake the kingpin's hand on the stage telling him what a great fella he is in front of all of his peers. Makes the guy feels good, he gets some action from the wife that night. Wash, rinse, repeat...

The problem I have with the scenario above is that, imo, the foundations who receive the charitable donations pay salaries to people who work for them and it's in the best interest of these foundations TO NOT FIND A CURE. If they do, the gravy train stops. If a cure for whatever disease is found it'll be a guy who works alone or has a very small team. It won't be from some foundation. If a random genius finds a cure for cancer big pharma will probably have him whacked.

Perfectly said in my opinion.
