Did they remove the UAW sticker? That's one of my main concerns whenever I think about getting a tint; there's no way I'm ever removing that.
Why, those guys will send you a new one. Some guy with a shelby managed to get a few replacements anyway. Mine was removed for my tint, but I'm not pro Union either.

I'm surprised you waste peoples time because of their window tint. Maybe you should be looking for something a little more important..

The premise that tint in and of itself leads to other nefarious activity is wrong. It could, sure.. but so could pulling over every car that's orange and has out of state plates? There's no connection there other than a prick cop wasting peoples time.
You say look for something a little more important than tint, I chuckle because tint stops have got me some of my best arrests. You sir, clearly don't know the finer points of drug/gang interdiction. You're right though, Tint in crappy neighborhoods doesn't correctly correlate with crime. However, more often than not the two walk hand in hand.

Come drive though a high crime neighborhood loaded with gang members and drug dealers. Tint isn't the the only "reason" for the stop. Tint and no front plates are great tools for a traffic stop. There is a reason gang bangers and drug dealers tint their windows to limo dark and it's not because they want to keep the interior of their 94 corsica from getting faded.

My guess is you are law abiding and prefer the privacy of dark tint, along with its protective qualities of dark tint, I get that. However, as a cop I look at things differently than you do. Try walking up on a car you can't see into after if just left a shady neighborhood at 2 am. I've done it and when you end up pulling guns out of the car you're glad there is a cite you can hit them with. Dark tinted Windows can really make your ass pucker because of the unknown inside the car.

I can't say I know one cop that jacks a car up thinking I'm gonna write this guy just for his tint. It's more than likely that the cop feels there is "more" inside the car. I can't tell you the last time I wrote a tint ticket, but I can tell you the last time I stopped a car because of it. Yes there are cops who will write the ticket and send you on your way, and if you deem them pricks so be it. You're the one violating the law, if you don't like it write your local congressman or accept the fact that the "prick" cop who took an oath to uphold the law and protect you is doing his job as asked. If you don't want to get stopped, FOLLOW THE LAWS!

It's honestly one of the things that puckers me up the most when I worked nights. Not being able to see in due to the car being limo tint because I can usally make out some movements and you just never know . But like he said tint is just my probable cause to stop you but if I'm going to waste my time it's not just due to the tint. Unless like I stated before you want to pull up and show off your illegal tint next to me like a moron lol

I know the cops around here like to pull people over for tint but my guess is because of all the riced out wannabe fast and furious street racers, i dont think they want to give a ticket just for tint, my opinion is theyre looking to check a record for illegal street racing or drug activity. Thats the reason i went with 35%, nothing to see here officers, move along and stay safe

Haha, exactly. I won't lie, I've stopped for tint to chat with the tuner crowd. I make it real clear that you don't do your racing on the street. Also when a cop knows am much as the guy driving the car, it builds relationships and the kids think, officer L knows his stuff and he is a car guy. Then when I see them at the gas station they are willing to chat it up with me like old friends. (good tips come out of these relationships)

If you two want to argue about LE and window tint can you do it somewhere else? I mean seriously, who gives a shit? The cop has his point, the guy that wants 5 percent has his. Doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong, it simply means one is legal and one is not. Arguing with a cop on a forum probably isn't going to get the legislatures to chane the laws, so why go back and forth like that? Hold on, crystal ball...

"It's bs that the people tint their windows 5 percent because it can impede my ability to observe and detect possible threats or illicit activity at a traffic stop or on the road."

"But this is America and j should have a right to tint my windows to 5 percent cause I like my interior to be darker, I don't want people seeing me in traffic, or I just simply like the look. Cops are a PITA cause they pull me over for frivolous reasons that waste my time, just cause I like my windows to be dark"

Both good points. Can we move on?

 I'm sorry, but that is the most twisted sentence I've read on this forum thus far. LOL

I should have worded it better. Wrong in a personal moral sense, basically the cop has his opinion that tint shouldn't be that dark, the other guy has an opinion that they should be allowed because he likes it. I can respect both points, as each person is entitled to what they like/think.

Here's mine 35%

I just want to know why a cop feels the need to look in my personal property if I'm not doing anything wrong. Kinda like requiring me to open my windows or my door to the house. Sure it's the smart thing to do to open the door for you and be polite. Same goes for my car, now I understand wanting to keep with front window visibility. But tinting IMO shouldn't be governed by law on the sides and rear (up to a point, most laws are excessive, 20% tint on top of whatever my GTI comes with from the factory and I've never had any visibility issues with that car at night or day.). It would be very easy to say, roll down your window prior to walking up to the car, or have that be required. No glass is easier to see through than any glass. That said, I'm not sure if I'm going with 18 or 25 all the way around. I'm leaning towards 18 for the most heat protection. I agree 5% is a bit excessive for tint.

You shouldn't just be pulling people over for tint either regardless. It's just a revenue thing at that point if they have done nothing wrong. It's more dangerous for you to pull a car over for dark tint, than it is to leave that person alone.

Food for thought next time ya wanna stop someone just for tint. Now i get you are already pretty lenient but if ya charge people for tint since there are laws for it, IMO it would be better for you to use it as an Add-on charge to something else they did.

Me personally I always roll down my window for a cop. Just makes life easier on everyone.

Now my question is, what does 70 percent tint look like on the front? I personally don't care to tint the front dark, I just care about protecting the car from UV rays while driving. For parking I'll get a Visor.

Wow, just plain wow. Looking into your personal property? The Supreme Court has ruled that people have less expectation to privacy in their vehicles in comparison to their houses. Technically you don't have to roll down your window for am officer, however, a dick attitude is gonna get you a cite real fast.

Tint laws are set so that the operator of the vehicle can safely see out at all times of the day. They are also set so that officers are safe when approaching the car. Try asking a person to roll all their windows down in the middle of January when the temp is - 15. What happens if the window motor is broken? Seems easier to limit the transmittance level for tint.

And to the bolded portion of your comment. That's the most broke logic I've seen this week. Cops shouldn't be pulling people over for tint because they haven't done anything wrong? Hello if you're being pulled over for too dark of tint you've violated state statute. Which no matter how you look at it, and no matter YOUR option, is still WRONG! Should cops just start ignoring people running red lights or speeding too? Lastly, in regards to your last sentence, I shake my head. Your asking that a cop turn a blind eye because it MIGHT be more dangerous. Cops don't get into their line of work to puss out of things and feel afraid to stop a car. Telling one to let the car go because it could be dangerous to stop is cowardly. It is the risk you take putting on the uniform, one does not simply let fear dictate how they do their work.

Food for thought, if you don't know anything about the job don't tell someone how to do it. I wouldn't tell a surgeon how to operate.

Right because blowing by a red light or stop sign is the same thing as having a tinted window. And speeding is only dangerous dependant on the conditions you are driving in to include the condition of your car.

My point in what you bolded, is that most tint laws are too restrictive. You can see out of 20% tint just fine. As for rolling down the window, if the individual is getting a ticket they're gonna have to regardless of temperature along with passing over credentials. And you would only have to have it down momentarily. I haven't seen a traffic stop yet where a window wasn't rolled down. A cop shouldn't have to knock on your glass. As for the broken motor comment, there are multiple Windows in most cars and either way you need to find a way to pass documents and communicate. Also if the window is broken, if it's a law you can write a fix it ticket just like the numerous other things you can get a fix it ticket for in relation to your car.

And it's not called being a wuss, it's risk assessment. If the individual isn't endangering anyone (which most tint is not dangerous to anyone) why would you accept unnecessary risk other than for revenue.

One other thing, not that I'm disagreeing with you because I'm not really, but just because the supreme court rules on something doesn't make it right, it's just gives fuel for most to accept it. I agree you should accept less privacy, you're driving around in a box with Windows. It's more common sense than a ruling.

Another note on tint and a cop looking into my car, they don't have a right to search my car without probable cause...Regardless of how you feel about it they don't need to see anything in my car except for me when I roll down my window, (oh yea and so ya don't blow up on me, the windshield of course) I understand wanting a cop to feel safer, but they are there for the public's safety. Anyway I know we're not going to agree on this and I'm just rambling now so I'll end this here lol

Let me add this though, I know I sound like I think all tints should be legal. I know I inferred it in my other post, but as i said before I really just think most tint laws are too restrictive. I don't think limo tints should be legal in the front or on a window on a passenger car door. But from what I can tell, 20% is fine. I can't comment much on less than that because I haven't driven in a car with less.
