Dealership for first couple oil changes?

Hello Everyone. This is my first post here :clap2:

I recently purchased an ecoboost mustang and it's getting close to that time for the first oil change. Do you guys typically take your cars to the dealer for this? I installed a MAP intake and don't really want to take it off each time for an oil change at the dealer.

I don't really want to void the warranty by taking the car in with the intake and also don't want to void any type of warranty by doing oil changes outside of the dealership.

Anyone have any advice?

They shouldn't void the warranty for aftermarket parts unless they can prove the part was directly responsible for a failure. In this case it would be kind of hard for them to say a cai was the cause of needing to change your oil lol. You should be fine.

You won't void your warranty doing your own oil changes either...unless you mess it up. Use recommended or better oil and filter, log your dates, mileage, etc. Save some bucks and have some fun.

I've always done my own maintenance. Then at 1000mi I asked my dealer what an oil change would be with the OEM semisynthetic - $40. Cheap and I get to be lazy? Yep! :cheers:

That's pretty good and I'd probably do the same for that price. That's a good deal less than good synthetic + filter for this engine.

Thanks for the input. I had my warranty voided for simple mods in the past so I'm just trying to be extra careful. Did anyone get any free maintenance for the first couple months, years, etc?

I got my first 3 oil changes (@6k mi ea) thrown in with my purchase. So I don't have to pay for that, but the rest is on me.

I think that the warranty will depend on the relationship you have with your service people. Good relationship and they would tend to overlook things. That is why I take mine across town to the dealer, I have a better relationship with them.

That's pretty rough that you've had a warranty voided.

Yeah, I have a place that will do it with Motorcraft oil and filter semisynthetic for the same price. Which with 8 quarts of oil is cheaper than doing it myself.

On old beaters I've always changed my own oil, but on a new car it's best to have it done professionally so that you can keep the service record for it.

I take mine to the quicklane. It's affiliated with Ford and the dealer across the street in the sense that the maint records make it into their system and onto owner.ford.com portal. They usually have a full synthetic oil change for $69. Buying the oil alone from a parts store is usually more than that. Not to mention the guys that work there are usually car buffs and not dealer techs, they could care less how the car is modded. Matter of fact they usually compliment them...That's my experience, not saying that would be right for you or anyone else...

Running full synthetic in my cars, I let the local Ford dealership do them. Never had any issues and it's only $10 more than me buying everything. I don't have to crawl under my car. I am in an out in 15-20 minutes. No brainer for me. The only thing I do change the oil on is my boat. Dealerships what over $300 bucks for those and the supplies cost about $135.

I was wondering how I can go about maintaining my car without voiding my warranty. Can I do my oil changes myself, keeping receipts of the oil I bought? Do I need to buy OEM filters? Do I have to get inspections done by my dealership to keep my warranty?

Got a free first oil change with purchase, so why not? Free is free even if it is only $30-40. Thereafter, will do it myself just like my S197 probably. Depends on the price as the 5.0 uses a lot of oil (6 quarts), as well as how hard the filer is to get to.

ah correction 8. A lot of oil. Even getting the "jug" special it's only 5 quarts plus the filter, still need to buy 3 more. So $35 if you get the special at say Autozone for 5 qts synthetic and a filter, and then another $27 in extra quarts. $62 just in material.

Dealership may just be cheaper due to their bulk buying of oil and they send out service coupons all the time.
