How do you keep in sport mode all the time without enabling it ever time you start it up ?

You don't. It's a legal requirement; it has to reset to the default mode every time you start the car.

You don't. It is not legal for a car to be designed to do that.

edit: Jimmy beat me

I love driving in sport/sport + on the highway and light traffic but I really can't imagine wanting to be in sport all the time anyway

I used Sports+ for the first time last week now that the weather's gotten warmer... I have to say, it's absolutely SHOCKING how different it is. The throttle response, transmission mapping, everything... I really didn't think that the drive mode could change the character of the car so much.

But, 99% of the time I'm driving the car, it's useless, because I'm driving in heavy traffic at 20 mph.

At least, it's just one switch away.

Look at it like a pre-flight checklist. Traction control: off, Steering: Sport+, Mode: Sport, ready for takeoff...

Really?

I can't stand not being in sport mode. Sport should be Normal imo.

I feel in Normal the steering and throttle response are much too soft and non-responsive.

Why not just put it in track mode?

That's what I do now, but if I have a passenger I work right to left for effect, heh

I'm in Sport Mode before the seat belt is buckled, just as suggested above in pre-flight. I sometimes stay in Normal to remind myself why Sport Mode is so much better.

It is great when traffic is relatively light and you have room to sprint but if you are just going from light to light or there is any traffic it gets old having the car bucking and trying to hold on to gears while you keep slowing down

I'm in an auto btw

This exactly.

When I'm stopping at red lights five times a mile and never getting above 20 mph the aggressive shift pattern and ultra-sensitive throttle are a bit much.

Shift pattern mapping is different- this does alter MPG (and "drive by" noise standards). Only slightly but when manufacturers are dealing with CAFE on a fleet wide basis every little bit helps.....

Ford also builds vehicles to a 85% spec--meaning 85% of the buyers will "like it". They broke that standard in 2001 with the Bullitt and got lots of "stiffness" "rough ride" complaints with that lowered suspension.

Thus "sport" is an option that the buyer/driver selects....to their spec depending upon driving circumstances.

You also have to work right to left too.

1) disabling TCS will canceled if you select a mode that has any kind of traction control afterward (e.g. all of the modes)

2) steering weights are overridden by drive modes too. If you select normal or comfort steering, then toggle into sport/track mode, the steering is tethered back to sport weighting.

So you should select your drive mode, then your steering, then disable the TCS if you're looking for fully off. And if you want sport steering and a sharper mode, you just have to use the mode switch.
