I like ford boss side exhaust, the things I don't like about it first that it's an X pipe not an H pipe like is should be the original on the 2012 was H pipe I don't know why ford made all there exhaust with an X pipe, second that way to expansive for just the mid pipe.
I have several ideas on how it could be done with an H pipe
1) Buy resonator delete H pipe (MRT from cj pony or the lethal performance) and add the side exit to it.
2) Buy an H pipe from any muffler shop or jeg and custom build everything from zero.
My concern with 2nd option is how hard would it be to build the H pipe it's self, because the delete kits cost $240 MRT $300 LP may be have it made from zero come out more expensive the H pipe cost $45 plus the labor and tube there going to have to add to make it fit.
I don't know if what I'm thinking would be possible, but if so I don't think it would add up to the $1,050 that the original one cost. What would be a better choice between those?
Or just adding cut out any where before the axelback, would that make the same sound as making the side exit on the H part of the pipe?

Check out my H pipe pics in my album. It cost me less than $100 bucks at a good muffler shop and was made from scratch.

I'm also thinking of getting a custom h pipe made. Extremely cost efficient and sounds great for the price. It will hold me over till I can afford a full catback :)

Your H pipe does look great I think something like that would be the best option the think.
Now the think is the side exit would adding it to the position of the H crossing sound better than just adding cut out any where?

really liking your idea and thinking about doing the same to mine. I want the side exit that MMD showed on their SEMA car this year but it's going to be way overpriced if they even release it. The other one is way too expensive like you said.

My only concern is the loudness of it and drone. This is going to be my daily for a long time and I take many roadtrips so I don't want it obnoxiously loud or drone badly. My idea was to invest in possibly a single center mounted dual entry/exit muffler to control the sound and give it nice tone.

THoughts?

Thanks, man.

I read the crossover(H or X) is most effective placed closest to the engine.

The stock exhaust hangers are very far to the rear, but I'm sure a good shop could make it work well.

I have zero drone using the stock mufflers. I wish the factory exhausts were not so raspy sounding at high RPM though. Overall, I am satisfied as my H pipe is not too loud nor too quiet!

Another thing to consider is if you want your H pipe welded or not. Mine is welded so it won't leak or move around like clamps might. The downside is a much harder removal if the need ever arises. A reciprocating saw would make quick work of it though.

I'm thinking of adding an electric cut out to open when I want some noise and close it to cruise as it is also my daily driver. My only concern is where to position the side exits o just add the cut outs any where in the pipe.

Yea I did see that it's welded I'll have to think about that, what would be better welded or with clamps to keep it bolt on.

Hadn't even thought about that! Brilliant idea. You could even buy whatever catback system you wanted and just add the cutouts after the fact if you wanted and then route the piping to the sides. I might just do that on my car since I already have a custom $100 x-pipe installed and muffler swap.

Going forced induction though before the end of the year so investing more into the current setup might be a bad choice since 3" would be better.

If I add the cut out would I have to make the pipes exit or could I just dump the right after the cut out?

You could just have them dump right after the cutout if you wanted. Couple downsides I see to that are: sound directly under the rear seat (potential drone), heat would flow right under the rear seats as well (and exhaust fumes).

I would personally just add a few inches of pipe to each side to angle it down and to the side of the car to give it more directional sound/flow of heat and fumes.

Good point, I would love to have it as close to the oem as possible but I know that would be very hard. So may be like you said may be just add some pipe and dump it as close to the side as possible with it been seen.

If you want to keep the OEM mufflers and sound when just cruising or something and loud when you want it to be, you could keep the stock resonator and put the cutouts after it with piping to the side. This would be quieter than if you resonator delete and h-pipe though.

I was refering to the mid pipe try to keep it oem close to the boss oem but I do thinks it would be very hard, and as for sound I was thinking the borla type s or the FRPP touring catback, making the H pipe and adding the cutouts that might do it for me.
