I just ordered my 15 and plan on trading my Taurus in when it arrives in May. Today I hit a rock in traffic and cut the sidewall on the front passenger side. Luckily it happened a mile from my house and I was able to limp home. I have factory 245/45/R20 on the car. I don't want to pour more money into the car. I'm hoping to find a pair of used 20" tires from Discount Tire or something. I never should have mentioned trade-in in front of her. :frusty:

Mismatched tires will likely hurt your trade more than just getting one new OEM tire.

That was my biggest fear when I ordered my 15. My 05 had so many close calls during the 2 month wait. The biggest one came on the way to get my new one. I was on the highway and someone in front of me stopped. I broke hard and the woman behind me switched lanes at the last second to avoid rear ending me. Hopefully you can find some tires and the taurus last till the stang gets there.

You'll lose a lot more money in trade value if you have mismatched tires than the cost of a new tire.

I'm shopping for a single Michelin MXM4 now. Best price so far is Discount Tire @ $260. I may go that route. Hope they don't give me any flak or try to raise the price because I only want to buy 1.

My car had basically slicks on the front and probably 10% tread on the rear when I traded it in, and they marked off $250 for the tires. Would have cost me $500 to get 4 new ones...

Are you dependent on the trade? Do you already know how much the dealer will give you? Get a ball park to find out how much they are going to screw you so you can wager if cheapo tires are worth it...Last thing you want is to be in May and find out they burn you on a trade regardless of tire condition.

lol 90% of people won't look at tire brand or size, just tread on each wheel. and it will be more expensive to replace a full set of tires than just take the -$200 hit they will do for bad tires.

if you ordered, you're going to get screwed on trade in regardless as you basically have no leverage on the dealer. If you're shopping off the lot, leverage is much higher as you can tell you're going to go to another dealer.

I told them that with the price they offered, I have to go and sell it myself and will be back in a few days - got $2k more than their initial offer but it still was a low ball. Their leverage in this case is - you're paying tax on a price difference, if you sell it elsewhere it's no longer the case.

Bottom line - not a great situation to be trading in when picking up a custom order.

I am paying cash for my 2015. I am lucky that I can afford to do so. I will have waited for 1/3 of a year since my order was placed. My 'trade-in' would have depreciated a significant amount by then.

When ordering my car i had a trade in and the dealer quoted me a low trade in offer. Mean time my girlfriends son totaled her car and she needed a car so she bought it from me for the price the dealership was offering me. I'd rather have my GF buy it than a dealership take it to make a few thousand dollars off of me.

My headliner fell off the day of the day I traded mine in. lol They just took a couple hundred off the value of the car. I had scratches on the wheels from the previous owner so I figured it was fair.

I wouldn't stress about a couple hundred dollars.

Trade in? Sell that junx on cars.com. The dealership won't notice that. They'll just see a 2013 Ford and give you 17K for it.

order.
As someone who Ordered a custom car and put no money down, I had all the leverage in the world. Though I just took the xplan + extra incentives + free extended warranty.
