Did the cop have a decibel meter?
I'm pretty sure any regular/reasonable person can tell how loud the ATAK is over what is normally accepted. I don't think that could even be reasonably questioned like maybe a Flowmaster (loud but not ridiculous)

I'm pretty sure ALL the exhaust systems can get you in trouble if you're being a jerk in a parking garage and doing pulls on the street

The cop actually liked the car and exhaust, but said he had to give me a ticket due to the complaint. The woman drove a.. take a guess? Prius.

He didn't have to give you one. Even if someone complains we have the discretion to write a ticket or give a warning.

Question. I assume you're a cop, since you have "illegal" modifications to your car, would you being "caught" result in any harsher punishment than if say I were to get caught? Just curious

No, if I get stopped there is a 99.9% chance the officer is going to say have a nice day as soon as I show him my badge. It's courtesy, I don't know of any officers who write other officers here in South Florida. But, no there would be no harsher punishment, same thing.

Most local noise ordinances are based off reasonableness of the noise. Some have basic distance measurements, such as if a noise is disruptive at 50/75/100 feet, and based on the activity being performed and it's reasonableness. (example: the noise from cutting your lawn will be audible from hundreds of feet, but the activity and noise would be considered reasonable if it's being conducted at a reasonable time). Even if your state allows modified exhaust, you could still be subject to a noise violation.

Anywho, modifying exhaust is illegal in most states and it is plain as day when a car has modified exhaust.

On Borla's site it said the ATAK exhaust is street legal. I would just take it to court, show the documentation and tell he cop better luck next time.
In VA, anything other than the OEM exhaust is illegal. Doesn't matter if it's street legal or not in terms of dB. You can take all the documentation you want, if it's not factory equipment, you'll lose.

VA is downright nasty when it comes to modded cars, from my experience. Years ago when I lived in northern Va, a good friend of mine drove a heavily modified e36 M3. One day he was parked by a 7eleven close to his house when a cop pulled up and proceeded to issue him an absurd number of tickets (I think it was around 6 but can't recall), including one for noise violation and another for reckless driving. All this while the car was shut off.

Needless to say, I try to be extra conservative whenever I drive by a cop down here.

Damn I'd love this exhaust, especially since the cops in Louisiana would probably ask me to rev it lol.

And thats why i love texas. Both cops that pulled me over just wanted to see the car! Then "keep it under the speed of sound, have a nice day"

Here is a CJ PP video comparing the S-Type and the Atak

Borla lagging on their product video but thanks to this guy and cj pony for posting sound clips and comparisons, I'm still wondering how the H pipe kooks cat back sounds like.
