Just a reminder, don't forget to check your catch can (if you have one) if you live where it's currently winter and cold outside. They fill much more quickly in cold weather. I'm checking mine every few weeks and emptying when necessary.

Thanks for the reminder. With the recent snow storm and subsequent ice storm, I haven't taken my GT out in over a week. I did start it twice and let it idle in the garage for about 5 minutes each time. Well I opened up my JLT can and saw a very small amount about an ounce of creamy tan oil and gas mixture. Smelled strongly of gas as well. (Had the can on since 150 miles now at 1350 miles). Emptied and cleaned and put back on and finally got to drive it around this afternoon for an extended period as the roads are finally dry (yet caked with road salt). I'm going to chalk this up to sitting for a week and only starting it in the garage to idle for 2 separate 5 minute periods. In other words it didn't have a chance to burn off that extra gas/vapors in such a short time period. I will monitor closely over the next few weeks.

So thanks Oldguy, good advice. :)

I'm using the ADD-W1 can. It has a dip-stick and my can is mounted where I can get to it easily. I'm checking it every two to three weeks now in the cold and dumping about 3/4 of an inch out each time. The dip-stick doesn't go all the way to the bottom, so if I see anything on the stick, I empty it.

Edited to add: I just checked mine again after two and a half weeks and it was about half full. This is my first winter with the can on and I'm amazed at how fast it's filling.

ugh I just got mine and have yet to install it. I have to say I am quite worried with over 6k on the odo, heavy winter usage, and am JUST getting my can :(

I know what you mean. I had 9,000 miles on my Veloster before I found out about catch cans. I'd never had a turbo before so I wasn't familiar. I wouldn't worry too much about the past though. Besides, the cars are intended to run without cans. But I feel better knowing that I'm keeping the engine cleaner with the can.

I image that the manufacturers don't install cans from the factory because they would require too much maintenance especially in the winter. The owner would have to be checking frequently or the car would need to be taken to the dealer just as frequently. The frequent maintenance of the can would be prohibitive. Then again, maybe it's not really necessary. I'm not an engineer. But I feel better with the can installed. ;)

Wow I checked mine yesterday and there is quite a bit of oil, will put the pic up when I get home. I put it on at about 40 miles and am now at 900.

I plan on emptying mine into a container, but I thought about that the other day, is the oil collected in the can bad?

There are some pretty funny catch can threads on here, none lately though :(

It's my opinion that it's potentially diluted and or contaminated. But you know what they say about opinion's. Lot's of UPR fanboys in these separator threads that I've read.

I know the type...I personally feel that any separator on these cars is far better than none. I remember when simple water separator from a air compressor was what we used on the Gen 2 Lightings and on my old Terminator. Bottom line is anything keeping this junk from coating the back of the throttle blades and manifold is a welcome guest.

I pour it on my morning cereal. Milk is for pansies. I'm manly like that. ;)

On a serious note of course it gets put with the rest of my used motor oil that I eventually take in to recycle. :)

I have not decided for sure if I'll put one on my V6 after it arrives. But if I do, I think I'd get a clear 20+oz bottle, probably with premarked oz lines (or just a plain old water bottle) and just keep it until it's full. Kind of a visual over time of what's been caught. Then restart when it's full. Just one of those 'curious to see how much time or miles to fill the bottle'. And if it changes over the life of the engine.
