What would you do?

I find myself in a bit of a quandry and thought a little good natured discussion could be fun. So, I am going to present you with 3 different options. Please indicate which you would choose and why. In actuality I know what I'm going to do, but who knows maybe somebody can change my mind. First, a little back story; I currently drive a 2010 Malibu 2LT. It's a nice enough car, but not much fun. I do however enjoy some of the creature comforts like remote start (comes in handy during the summer in TX). I am at the point where I'd be able to break even on a trade. I have just over a year of payments left. I will not have more than one car payment at a time. I also really want the Mustang to be manual. But, I'm not sure I want to drive stick every day. Taking all that information into account, I have the following options.

A.) Trade the Malibu now for a 2015 manual GT:
Pro: I get the car I want now.
Con: The Mustang is my only car, losing the ease and comfort of an automatic daily driver.

2.) Wait, pay off the Bu, then buy a Mustang (possibly a slightly used one by then)
Pro: Best of both worlds. Have dedicated DD to drive and perform mundane life duites, i.e. taking dogs to the vet.
Con: Like Tom Petty said "Waiting is the hardest part"

iii.) Trade now for an auto GT
Pro: Get a Mustang now, and retain the ease and comfort of having an auto DD.
Con: Not exactly the car I want. My Malibu has paddle shifter types things, and while I really enjoyed them on the Gallardo that I drove, in the Malibu they leave me longing for the feeling of slamming through the gears.

So, what say you? What would you do in this situation.

#1. If you have your heart set on a manual trans mustang, you'll likely regret get the auto. If you don't really need two cars, then I don't see why you should'nt just trade in now and get what you want. You can haul dogs in a mustang. LOL

I have a simple rule that gets me by. I purchase a car that I can be happy with for 7+ years or 100,000+ miles. I don't even entertain the idea of a new vehicle until I've hit one of these numbers. If you don't keep vehicles past their loan, you are throwing money out the window. For some, that reasoning doesn't factor in. For me, it does.

hands down #1 for me.

I DD my car, no complaints. My DD has been a manual since 2008. This has been my 4th car since then, but in 2008 I had a daily (1997 318ti 5 speed hatch) and weekend car (2001 540i 6 speed sport), both manual. My last car was a 2011 wrx 5 speed.

My theory is why buy a nice car if you're not going to drive it on a daily basis?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the remote start only come on the automatic? I mean there are aftermarket solutions but it is something to think about. I would choose #2 because you can keep the creature comforts and basic daily while having the fun weekend car.

Mustang is the first car I bought and I'm hoping to do the same thing. Maybe not 7 years but at least 5! The trick is to not drive anything that's much faster.. this car feels like a rocket to me and I want to keep it that way lol.

I'm coming from a Volkswagen CC with a DSG auto and into an EB 6MT Mustang and have no problems daily driving and grocery shopping with a manual transmission in the winter with blizzards and temps below 20 windchill, like today.

Get the GT man!

OK, couple other things. First, I have driven a manual GT and an auto Eco Boost. Although, I didn't get a chance to experiment much with the paddle shifters on the EB. I loved the manual GT (btw, either way I go it'll be a GT)

Asharus: The Mustang will be the last car I buy. I plan to keep it for a long time. Beyond that, I don't have any intention to "own" anything else. So, once the Mustang is paid off I will likely lease a new DD.

04SloSnake: You are correct. The remote start is one of the things I'll be giving up if I get the manual. While it's not the end of the world if I don't have it, I have grown quite used to it and find it surprisingly useful.

so it sounds like you're going to get a GT either way. i'd get it ASAP. auto or manual it's not gonna matter. you're gonna love the hell out of it.

Manual GT! I test drove the auto and the paddles weren't responsive enough for me. It's my daily driver and even in heavy traffic I have no regrets!

Manual. And read the thread about removing the clutch pedal spring and do it in the parking lot of the dealership before you leave.

the GT manual is by far the easiest manual I have ever driven in stop and go traffic. I have the 3.73 of the PP and the gears are still long enough I'm not shifting constantly.

Def the first "mod" on my list. I actually have most of my mods planned out. Now, I just have to take care of the minor issue of not yet having a Mustang :)

No question. #1 All the way !!!

Life is too short. If you can do it, get what you want and enjoy life. I drove a manual for years as a DD here in Canada. So much so I had to think about how to drive an auto when I got in one. Get what your heart wants. Own it for a long time with no regrets.
