The car was beautiful. But, in ways I felt disrespected. I was offered $45,000 for my loaded Mach 1 with 3500 miles and had to fight to get that number up to $56,000, knowing damn well they’d sell it for $60k+. The other thing was I wasn’t even allowed to drive the car til I agreed to numbers. I get I’m 26, but that didn’t sit right with me. The cherry on top was I pulled a 761 credit score and was offered the “best rate” of 13.99%. That was kind of when the writing was on the wall and I decided to walk with my Mach 1, pride, 6% loan, and 10year/100k mile ESP.

You showed great restraint! At age 26 that's impressive. They'll always be available whenever you are ready. Can save up and maybe just add one to your stable later.

They wanted you to walk away if all they could offer was a lousy 14% interest rate with a good score.

My car is paid off but if I was in the market for a new car and the interest rate is something similar to what you got, count me out as well.

Back in 87 I would have killed for a 14 percent rate!

Sadly I had to walk. Deal just wasn’t going to make sense for me in the end. I feel some closure that I tried. @PP0001 was a massive help.
Not trying to fuel the fire here, but, I picked up my ‘18 with 21k miles and a clean history and it was in phenomenal condition. Got 6/90 extended warranty (credit union servicer) that covers everything and more compared to Ford ESP, no worries. 350 was $51,888, warranty $3800. Zeigler online Ford ESP with similar coverage and less additional miles was $6000+ There are options besides a $75K+ 2020. Or, enjoy the Mach 1!

That’s nuts. Get pre-approved through a local credit union then go buy any gt350 you decide on for a 3.9-5.79% apr for 48-84mos with a 761 Fico. That dealer is really bad. Also, recently I passed up a cyber orange ‘23 Mach 1 premium 6-sp with handling and elite packs etc. with 12K miles and 1 owner clean history and it was listed at $48,888. Not kidding.

Found one near me, 5,000 miles. 2020 GT350, heritage package, technology package, track package. I love my Mach 1, but I am curious of the difference of the driving experience, from what I read. The GT350 is for sale for around $79,000. I just bought my Mach 1 a few months ago, so I owe $55,000 on it. I don’t think I’d have the balls to actually do it, or that it would make sense financially, but looking for opinions.

P.S. What would I be missing out on looking at a Non-R?

Also, an ESP is a MUST. If I cannot obtain one the whole fantasy dies there.

2020 or bust also for me.
Nope, the Mach is WAY more car for me. But I will die on that hill. I am not a VooDoo fan at ALL.. The Mach is the best of both worlds. Shelby parts underneath, Coyote power all day long for daily reliability. I drove mine HARD this weekend and nothing but grins...

Yes get pre approved at a lower rate from an online bank or credit union. That was way too high of a rate. I rarely use the banks the dealers work with. All kinds of shady but legal kickbacks going on. Actually them giving you 55k on the trade for the M1 was good. But if you owe more than that on the M1 loan then the negative equity can affect the rate on the loan for the 350. Did you have the dealer run the latest credit check? Did you see the report? But you’ve decided to walk away so that’s fine too. Keep an eye on it and see how long it sits, if it’s still there at the end of the month they might want to deal. Walk in on the last day of the month a few hours before closing. Then they deal as the next day monthly sales figures come out. In my last 911 I stalked it for four months online and drove the bastards down 15k right when they were going to send the poor puppy to auction.

I live about 15 minutes from OP, where we’re at (just outside Chicago), low mile Mach HP’s with a clean CarFax are still going low to mid $60’s all day long. When they actually come available, which is not often. He was right to get them to up their trade offer, that rate they threw at him was insane.

I know where the car is that he went at looked at today, I’m half tempted to go there (I’m almost double OP’s age) and see if they let me test drive it and what rate they throw at me. I do think there’s some ageism at play here. I’ve never dealt with that dealer before so I can’t say for sure without actually going there.

It won’t last long. It’s firmly into buying season here, someone will snatch it up pretty quickly. If it was October-February, I’d say you’re spot on. Not in May though. If it’s still there at the end of the month, I suspect that the dealer is playing games of some kind.

Yes when I was his age, I was denied a test drive a few times. But that was….well long ago.

Interest rates are ridiculous right now. I guess I got lucky buying my car during Covid. Don't be surprised if you hear back from them. When I was looking to place an order for my car, the dealers here wanted 5K over. I walked away and said if things change let me know. One of the dealers called me back a few days later. If it's meant to be it will happen.

Yes the sales manager could be trying to save it for a bud or relative to buy, by driving off other possible buyers. Shady shit, but that’s a car dealer for you. I’d go back with a cashiers check from another bank for the funds owed for it once the trade is done, with taxes and fees added it. Then say here it is.

For sure. I’ve encountered more than a few of those over the years unfortunately. It sucks but it happens

It’s definitely ageism at play. A local Chevrolet dealer did similar to our son, who was 24 at the time and wanting to drive a used ‘ 18 ZL-1 manual. They said no test drives under 26 yrs old (not 25?!) I told him to move on to a dealer that wanted a sale. Thing is, he is/was a General Motors IT employee making well beyond enough money, and, at the time owned a ‘23 SS 1LE manual. So, we found a blue ‘17 with 9k miles in AR and made the 6.5 hr drive from CenTX with bank check in hand and traded in the 1LE for the agreed upon price, no hassles, test drive provided lol.
