2015 PP test drive - where's the traction?!

I test drove a GT PP in mid to high 30 degree temperature and sure, the car started to get squirrely at the top of 2nd, but I had no problem pulling away from a light at around 1/2 throttle. I plan on getting a cheap skinny set of 19's and throw some snow tires on them for the winters when I get mine, but I think for normal driving, this horse has been beat to death. Don't expect to go 10/10 on Summer tires in the winter.

So is the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Which never gave me any problems in my CTS-V or M3.

If this is normal Pirelli PZero performance then the tires just suck.

Preaching to the choir with that last sentence on this forum. It's not that the P-Zeros are bad in cold weather, it's that the PSSs are abnormally good given the category. It's a summer tire for god's sake. You're driving in freezing conditions. What are you expecting?

FWIW, they perform very well in warm temperature. You really have to be a jack hole with the throttle to upset the rear end.

According to the Ford manuals, the Pirelli tires warranty is voided at temperatures below 45 degrees F. I'm confident that Ford, the tire manufacturers and recyclers wanted you to to go out and buy another set of tires for your brand new car, so you could actually drive it, rather than equip the car with a set of tires that 2/3's of the country will need for 6 months out of the year.

Not sticking the PP with summer compounds would void the need for the rest of the kit it comes with, essentially. There's no point in those big stoppers when you neuter the car with crappy A/S tires.

I just had a comically bad experience with a test drive of a '15 GT PP.

The car simply could not get traction. Are these Pirelli tires just that bad in ~35 degree temperatures? On the highway on-ramp, the rear-end skidded around and just had no bite. In 2nd and 3rd gear, even with moderate throttle, I was still feeling the end move around. Very disconcerting.

Is this an isolated incident or are you guys experiencing the same things in colder but dry weather?

I have been running the Michelin Pilot Super Sports in a variety of cars over the last 2 years and none behaved this badly, even in colder temps.

3.73's combined with the MT-82 gearing isn't helping. Also salt on the cold roads could be another factor.

Former FWD owners, now new GT PP owners with some rain and cold.

Joking, but. Purchased mine and drove home in downpour rain with a few throttle down times on its way home. Driven a few "spirited" drives in the local mtns with low temps. I don't see all the drama of being scared of it, let alone running off the road like some guys...

Can't really wash a car when it's not topping 20 degrees out. I washed it three weeks ago when we had a warm patch for a bit, but at the moment that's not really possible.

Even down here in relatively warm Texas, I noticed it took a few hundred miles before the tires really started gripping. I've had no issues with them since, but it only occasionally gets really cold here.

Agreed, my car looks exactly like that right now and it makes no sense to wash it when it's sub 20s and snowing every 3 days.
