What’s the deal with some of these import Canadian Mustangs?

If they replace it with an original cluster, whose FINIS code is an exact match for your VIN in Ford's database, then it will be Canadian and will be metric again. They would need to reprogram it again.
However, nothing would prevent them from replacing your cluster with an American one. Problem solved.

The EEPROM is part of the cluster and, among other things, it's where the odometer and various other calibratios are stored.

My 2015 GT was Canadian, whoever imported it either replaced the cluster or the face. I never thought to check Canadian Carfax, might be interesting.

I see, in that case sounds like not a very big deal, and they’d just have to order the American part. I was wondering because you never know with screens and I have my Ford warranty until 2035.

Indeed. Just use an American part and Bob's your uncle.
I appreciate you sir, you’ve put me at ease about all this stuff! It’s really no big deal after all. You don’t think they’d give me a hard time since it’d be under warranty to swap the US part instead?

No, I don't think so. The parts are completely compatible. It's not like you'd be asking them to install a Cadillac cluster through an improvised adapter. It's a genuine Ford part, made specifically for the Mustang, which is 100% compatible with your car. You'll be fine.
But I wouldn't worry too much about it. The IPC is quite reliable. The chances you'll ever need to replace it before you sell the car are pretty slim.

Very good, sounds like it likely won’t need to happen anyhow in that case. I think the reason I worry about these things is because the plan is to keep this one in the stable forever!

I’ve owned two Mach 1’s, both originated from Canada. Both were imported from NHTSA registered importers (both different importers). Both had no signs of being of Canadian origin, other than the door stickers (including the registered importers sticker stating the car conforms to U.S. Federal standards). I’ve seen multiple threads of people having trouble with the digital clusters not being able to be swapped over without swapping the actual cluster. Also the whole DRL’s being the entire headlight. I’ve had none of these issues truthfully on EITHER car. My gauge cluster is correct in MPH, my DRL’s are correct and are only the tri bar’s. Everything reads in the correct units, such as Fahrenheit. Why are some of these imports half assed? Is it because they aren’t brought in through registered importers and are rather brought over by Canadian owners and then traded to dealers? So they’re left with KMH on their dashes and such? What do you guys think? I also was able to get a Ford ESP 0 issues whatsoever, register the vehicle, etc. 0 issues. The only weird thing I had was the original financer Truist, backed out after they found out the vehicle was of Canadian origin to which Ally financial took it on 0 issues following that. Have also heard chatter of diminished value, when my car shows the same KBB value as comparable vehicles.

I get some of these concerns are for other manufactures that don’t cover the entirety of North America such as Mercedes which is two separate entities, but for Ford and Porsche for example, everything is one entity.

That Black accent above the rocker panels is awesome!! The wheels too. Bet every time you park it, you gotta' look back.... 👍👍👍

interesting stuff to read. I ran across a couple of canadian cars in and around the salt lake city area for sale while shopping. passed on them as the dealers were small independents and figured something could be in the history. good to see with a little bit of work one can find the history.

I think if the dealer I had went to was a smaller independent dealer such as that, I’d be a little more wary myself truthfully. I’d want to make sure the car came in through a registered importer, and wasn’t brought in by a Canadian who moved to the US, I feel like that’s where problems can arise. Otherwise if it goes through a registered importer, it’s the same as any other US Mustang at that point on paper and otherwise.

I actually ended up doing some more research on my vehicle and buying the Canadian Carfax which gave me another mileage entry from its life there in 2023. Both Carfax’s are completely clean!

The car was originally sold new in Ontario, Canada in June 2022 and lived in Québec as what appears to be a very low-mile enthusiast vehicle. I am the second owner of the vehicle. Canadian CARFAX reports show kilometers; I have converted them into miles for easier reading.

All dates and mileages below are taken directly from official CARFAX and state records.

CANADIAN HISTORY (2022–2025)

Canadian Mileage Timeline
• June 14, 2022 – Ford Motor Company
• Vehicle manufactured and shipped to original dealer
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• June 15, 2022 – Dixie Ford Sales Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario – 7 miles
• Vehicle sold new
• Wheel locks installed
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• October 25, 2022 – Val Estrie Ford, Sherbrooke, Québec – 461 miles
• Service record
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• November 8, 2022 – Val Estrie Ford, Sherbrooke, Québec – 539 miles
• Service record
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• April 24, 2023 – Independent Source, Sherbrooke, Québec – 659 miles
• Independent odometer reading
• Source: CARFAX Canada report

These entries confirm that the vehicle saw very limited use during its time in Canada.

Administrative Activity in Québec
• March 31, 2025 – Québec Motor Vehicles Department
• Registration renewed
• Administrative paperwork only
• Source: CARFAX Canada report

This entry reflects routine registration renewal and does not indicate any change in ownership.

SALE AND PREPARATION FOR EXPORT (2025)
• May 27, 2025 – 1,325 miles
• Vehicle listed at a Canadian wholesale auction
• Odometer reported as 2,132 km
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• June 4, 2025 – Ontario Ministry of Transportation
• Passed Ontario Safety Standards Inspection
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• June 4, 2025 – Ontario Motor Vehicles Department
• Registration issued or renewed
• Vehicle color officially noted as Red
• Source: CARFAX Canada report

These steps represent preparation for export and sale to a U.S. dealer.

TRANSITION TO THE UNITED STATES

In May–June 2025, the vehicle was acquired through the Canadian auction and arrangements were made to bring it into the United States.

The importing process was handled by AJ Importing LLC in Burton, Michigan, a federally registered NHTSA importer.

IMPORT PROCESS
• June 24, 2025 – Port Huron, Michigan
• Vehicle officially imported into the United States
• Processed by AJ Importing LLC
• Declared to meet U.S. highway safety specifications
• Source: CARFAX Canada report
• June 26, 2025 – Arkansas Motor Vehicle Department – 2,094 miles
• Dealer took title of the vehicle while it was in inventory
• Title issued or updated
• Vehicle color noted as Red
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report

This Arkansas title event was administrative only. The vehicle was not physically located in Arkansas. This is a common process used by U.S. dealerships handling Canadian imports for fast inventory titling.

Mileage Logic and Transport Explanation
• The mileage increase from the Canadian auction (1,325 miles) to the Arkansas titling (2,094 miles) equals approximately 769 miles.
• The real-world distance from AJ Importing in Burton, Michigan to Jacky Jones CDJR in Cleveland, Georgia is about 712 miles.

This mileage change reasonably accounts for:
• Movement at the auction
• Transport to the U.S. border
• Import processing
• Lot movement
• The physical drive from Michigan to Georgia

It is common for vehicles to be driven rather than shipped in situations like this due to logistics and timing constraints.

LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES

Dealer Preparation in Georgia
• August 13, 2025 – 2,104 miles – Jacky Jones Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Cleveland, Georgia
• Dealer service performed:
• Oil and filter change
• Tires mounted and balanced
• Fuel system service
• Wipers replaced
• Nitrogen tire fill
• Source: CARFAX Canada report

Sale to Me
• September 3, 2025 – 2,135 miles – Jacky Jones CDJR
• Vehicle officially sold to me
• Source: CARFAX U.S. report
• September 3, 2025 – 2,871 miles
• Vehicle driven from Cleveland, Georgia to my home in Illinois
• Personal mileage record

This marks the beginning of my ownership and use of the vehicle.

ILLINOIS REGISTRATION AND TITLING

Official Illinois Ownership
• January 13, 2026 – Illinois Secretary of State
• Title officially issued in my name
• Electronic Lien Title (ELT) created
• Illinois registration issued

Source: Illinois Secretary of State Title & Registration record
How did you find a car in Cleveland, GA? I bought a Chevy from a Jacky Jones dealer in Murphy, NC. Did you drive the Dragon on your way home?

I have a Canadian F150 that also came from Ontario. They are an XTR over there instead of an XLT and brought it at somewhat of a discount. When I got my truck in 2015 it was the lowest priced black crew cab long box ecoboost in the country. It did seem to hurt trade in value, but aside from that it's a great truck. 180k on it and going strong. Debating doing it again for my next one.

Random ask when your screen boots up does it say that "the gauge cluster may not display the correct units"?

Honestly my original Mach 1 was without the handling package I bought that one in around June 2025. I did a lot of research after I got that car as I originally thought the HP was just a splitter, spoiler, wheel arches, wheels and tires only. I found out it was bolt on suspension parts as well, okay no problem, but the reason I bought this car was to keep the warranty in tact. So quite honestly I didn’t want to do bolt ons, even OEM to it. I then really researched the handling package in depth and found a few other discrepancies such as the EPAS is different than non-HP cars and that’s not a simple bolt on, it’s almost, if not impossible to swap different EPAS between S550 vehicles. It started all to bother me as I bought this to be a long term vehicle, if not lifetime, so every night before bed I’d search extensively for a car that had all four options I wanted. Handling package, elite package, Recaro seats, and the tremec manual transmission. This proved extremely hard to find until I found the car at Jacky Jones in Georgia at around 3am one night in August. I called the next day, a Tuesday, and set up the deal for Thursday as that was my day off. I live in Illinois, and my only days off are Thursday, and Sunday. So, I had to make it work. I woke up Wednesday morning, went about my day, went to work, then Wednesday at around 11PM shoved off for Georgia. I drove straight there and arrived around 11AM Thursday. Traded in my previous Mach 1 for the Race Red HP car I own now, and was back on the road around 1PM, to which I drove straight back and got home around 11:30PM Thursday. So, I was up around two days straight give or take. Wouldn’t trade it for the world, but with how hard this car was to find it was my only option. It being Canadian originally made 0 difference to me as they’re literally the same exact car, and truth be told I wouldn’t of found another spec’d this way with only 2,000 miles, I don’t think. I’ve seen one other since, a 2021 spec’d the same way, with 81 miles, Grabber Yellow, at you guessed it, Jacky Jones in Cleveland, Georgia. I didn’t drive the tail of the dragon it self, but I drove a very similar road a bit West of the tail of the dragon.

Don’t let anybody tell you it should or will hurt trade in value, they’re full of shit, especially a Ford when all warranties, factory, ESP, recalls etc. transfer. Ford is Ford North America and every vehicle is built to North American spec, not American and Canadian spec. Porsche, BMW are the same way to Ford as well. Some manufactures are different though, such as Mercedes, and CDJR. Mercedes for instance is Mercedes Canada and Mercedes USA, so they are slightly different vehicles, and their warranties do not transfer. If you pull up Manheim and KBB on your truck, it will have the same exact value as an original American sold truck. After all, they’re the same exact truck and all come from Flat Rock. Maybe things have changed since 2015 possibly, but every Mach 1 I see, and truck I see that was originally sold in the Canadian market is being sold at full price, so don’t let them gouge you.

To answer your question, I don’t get any messages like that on my car. That leads me to ask, in your door jamb, next to the other stickers, is there a sticker from importation? If so, who is listed as the importer?
