Hi,

I have to be honest. Since I had this car I have never changed the oil myself. So I was looking today at just having some around as an emergency.

Went into my local Halfords. They did not seem to have the type I need.

so it should be 5w-30 fully synthetic. And the code I saw was wss-M2c961-A1.

Just wondering what you guys buy, brand and location.

For my the two oils changes ive done since having the car i used motorcrafts oil and filter. I plan to move to valvolines restore and protect and will probably stick with the factory filter. Undecided yet. The cost of myself doing an oil change was a little bit of a shocker to me requiring 10qts of oil. About $100 for oil and a filter to do it myself.

Pretty much the same price from autozone, advanced etc. I have seen cheaper 5qts on Walmart, but they are always sold out.

After a lot of debate and reading various forum threads I went to Ford and they sold me a Castrol Magnatec oil but I can’t remember the grade, I’ve just had a look for the bottle but I’ve thrown it away sadly.

I'm not sure on Valvoline R&P for our cars, HTHS looks to be a bit low?

I agree on OE for the filter.

I have used the AMSOIL Signature Series 5W-30 with 4 track days. I'm attaching the oil analysis. I'm going to switch to 0W-40 though since the viscosity was a bit weak.

It depends what you are doing with the car. I think the motor oil geek says that application dictates the chemistry.

Thanks for sharing the 5w30 Amsoil UOA!

I have a box of 0w40 Signature Series AZF waiting to go in myself. Are you going AZF or EFO?

I'm going AZF (for GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification) . I have a Gen3 so low calcium for for direct injected.

Oh yes, AZF does make especially better sense in that case.

Are you going to do a UOA on that fill? I'd be interested to see how it does if you do.

No. I did the UOA to see if the 4 track days was too much. I run the car at Daytona and Sebring which doesn't really cavitate the oil pump. Once I get an oil accumulator then I might try some tracks with a change in elevation or long sweepers. I think that's how some guys blow their engines without a way to account for a drop of oil pressure.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this and no one will ever change their mind. In the past I used Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W-20 in my 2018 GT. Recently I changed to Valvoline Restore & Protect 5W-30. My reason for going to R&P is that auto manufactures are using piston rings with less tension as in the past. The new ones have a tendency to get stuck in the ring lands when the engine gets dirty as they do not have the force to push them out against the cylinder walls like the old ones did. I believe this was done to reduce friction and get better gas mileage. My engine has over 60K miles on it and I figured if what they say is true about it cleaning deposits from the engine this will help the rings seat better. I also started using it on my wife's 2024 Toyota to keep deposits from ever building up. When it comes to going to 30 weight for the upper number I have watched hundreds of hours of videos on engine oil and came to the opinion that a little heaver oil will not hurt. I believe it was GM that recently recommended going to a 30 weight oil after a thinner weight cost them a billion dollars in recalls. An argument can be made that our engines were designed for 5W-20 as the cam phasers are oil actuated and require that weight. You have to make your own decision about that but I feel that overall the 5W-30 will do a better job in protecting all the parts that ride on a film of oil. As far as oil filters I am now using Mobil 1 filters, I had to walk out into the garage to see what I am now using as I have changed a few times. I believe there a a few good brands but the most important thing is to change your oil often; I have settled on 5K miles as like someone said purchasing 10 quarts or synthetic can cost over $60.

re: VCT being "designed" for 5W20

Don't a lot of people point to the thicker oil recommendation for track use as the thinner oil doesn't work the VCT as well?
