It's all very subjective of course but aint no way an R8 , Hellcat , Corvette , Superbird or GT350 sounds better than a 458 ferrari as far as V8s go

Not really a fan of that high pitched shriek. I prefer the sound of the V12 in the Ferrari 250 GTO. But of course it's all subjective.

I had read that Ford bought a 458 and took the engine apart in order to start the design/manufacturing of the VooDoo 5.2.
It reportedly sounded exactly like a 458 and Ford said Hell No... make it sound like a Mustang.

I think this deserved to make the list. If not be at the very, very top. This video is cathartic from 1-6min. This is, IMO one of the rare cases where the modifications make the car significantly more valuable than the base model.

Design, colour and the sound of the engine are what draws me to cars, although not always in that order.

Can't argue with any on that list, but for me there are a couple missing.

E46 BMW M3 CSL - Nothing else compares, and it sounded like that from the factory! No car would be allowed to be this rowdy today. Now, you have to look past the tinny exhaust note, which is an acquired taste. No, the CSL is all about the induction note. Inside the cabin its epic, but hearing it coming at you at full noise is THE best sound I've ever encountered. That BARK is so addictive. And best of all, it's REAL sound, not that fake crap pumped through the audio system. I just wish they still made something like this. (Skip to the 6.15 mark for that barking intake)

LEXUS 5.0 V8 - This thing wins my heart not because it's the fastest, most impressive engine in the world. But it's so charismatic, the induction bark, the exhaust note, the whip-crack up shifts, that insane rev limiter. And all this comes from Lexus! Think of it as a more cultured Coyote.

JAGUAR 5.0 SUPERCHARGED V8 - I've been in love with this engine for more than a decade. Used in multiple JLR products and best sampled via the F-Type R or SVR. I've been lucky enough to drive a couple of F-Type R's, I wish I could afford one because for me it's one of those rare occasions where a car ticks every single box. Inside or out, I love how raucous that engine is. Again, noise regs have killed the sound of these engines. I want one, like REALLY want one.

PORSCHE GT4 RS - You could nominate any of the 3.8 or 4.0 Porche GT engines here, but the GT4 RS version is THE one, purely for that metallic final 1000 rpm. Like the M3 CSL, this probably isn't an exhaust note car, instead its that manic wail that comes from behind the driver. Best sampled by the official Porsche Nürburgring lap.

ASTON MARTIN DB9 - I need to be specific here in specifying the earlier DB9, before Aston started doing the burble-tune thing. Also, before it was facelifted, the original is styling perfection. Not the fastest, not the loudest, not the most desirable V12 car, or even Aston Martin. But there is such charm to the ultra smooth, deep growl that the earlier Aston V12 had, the perfect blend of grand touring refinement, but also sporting appeal. Oh, and I love the sound of it winding over on the starter, very distinctive. I've been in love with that sound since release in 2004.

FORD MUSTANG 5.0 COYOTE - This will probably raise eyebrows, but I prefer the sound of the normal Coyote over the 5.2 Voodoo. Please don't take that to mean I hate the sound of the 5.2, rather I just prefer the somewhat smoother, creamier sounding 5.0 Coyote. I also think when they went to the dual-injection setup from 2018-onward, and the dual throttle S650, the extra revs and lung capacity gave the Coyote an even better intake bark. Most people tend to focus on exhaust note with these cars, but to me it's the induction note that make it so special. Be that from the driver's seat, or when hearing one on full throttle coming towards you, it's so addictive.

You'll notice that all bar one of these engines are naturally aspirated. I can appreciate the power gains and torquey feel of forced induction, but they just don't have the fizz, far too muffled. I also despise fake engine sound being pumped into the cabin through the audio system, of which BMW have so heavily pursued, which is disappointing because their engines were always so well-tuned.

THE SIN BIN LIST -

- Any recent Camaro or Corvette with the Chevy pushrod V8. These have such a horrible synthesized sound to them in the cabin, very wheezy and not all pleasant. Which is a shame because a big bore naturally aspirated V8 needs no fakery in the sound department.

- The current Toyota Supra or BMW with the turbo 3.0 inline 6. This layout has a naturally pleasing rasp to it, so why they have to lay on fake sound so thickly is a crying shame. I was looking at Supra's as well as the S650, but I just couldn't fall in love with that horrid sound.

- The BMW M-V8, the 4.4 twin turbo ones. I hate how they have attempted to synthetically recreate the sound of their previous naturally aspirated M engines, it just doesn't work. They sound like trash, inside and out.

- The Mercedes-AMG 4.0 V8. This thing is so fake that I really don't see why people go gaga for them. And yet AMG used to make some of the best sounding V8 engines, the Supercharged 5.4 and naturally aspirated 6.2 were glorious. The snap, crackle, pop exhaust theatrics sounded ok in the beginning, but as noise emission standards and particulate filters became the norm, what's left is an extremely unpleasant farting sound that is frankly embarrassing.

Not sure if it's allowed on the list but this gets my vote. IIRC it's a 347 stroker with tri y headers and augers(?) in the exhaust.

Folks, we have a winner!
Though others are either cool or exotic, this one is a heart-stopping combo that gets my vote!
Cheers

Can’t believe Ford pulled the wool over so many people’s eyes with that piece of shit engine. Whichever 350’s @wingnutt doesnt take at reduced prices, I’ll take one and eagerly await the motor to blow up 🤭
If you get an extended warranty. There’s a reason why Ford doesn’t make FPC engines anymore, and why the Predator/Aluminator aren’t FPC engines. A GT350 with a Coyote is a Mach 1. 😂

I would take a Voodoo any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. If she ever blows, I will happily rebuild her and enjoy it again. Some here might be happiest with an EV. I would rather drive a grenade with the pin missing than drive a boring toaster.

I hear that! And I agree 100% Love the sound of the Coyote with headers and a 3" cat back exhaust! Loud and proud!

As if an EV is the only alternative to the Voodoo. LMAO.
