What about gloss black vinyl instead of clear PPF?
PPF is available in gloss black now. Even better.

I want to paint my panel orange fury but I don't think I can afford it. Color match would be super tricky.

The paint on the taillight panel is soft as butter. It’s a never ending battle fighting swirls and scratches. You can use a polisher on it. Several people have PPF’d theirs. I’m considering getting a blank Ford panel and doing the same thing
Did not know they are painted. Seems much too smooth for painted.

Would look great if black tail light framing was also Orange Fury. Not as much if just the panel.

I hear you. I guess I just would consider the black around the taillight segments as just part of the taillights, you know? Preferable to the big black panel

Look at high end sports cars and they also have a painted rear end for a very "finished" look. BTW the painted rear trunk is the #1 styling feature that I like on the s650!

Seems I always want what I don't have

When I owned my white S197, it had body color between the taillights so I bought a black magnetic "cover" to go there to break it up. Now that I have a black panel, I want something different again. May just leave it alone on this one though.

DMG doesn't really lend itself well to contrasting panels in my opinion.

On edit, if mine ever starts bothering me, I'll most likely do the black PPF on it or wrap it in gloss black.

This is something I always notice and usually correct every couple months.

I was dicking around on youtube watching Mustang Week videos and saw this. First trunk lid panel I've seen paint matched and I think it looks really good. Something I will consider on mine in the future. Though I think it might look better with the taillight bezels also painted.

I really like the decklid panel in body color...at least on the S550 (not the S650 for some reason). With stripes on my Ingot Silver car, I believe retaining the black panel is better than going with the body color.
Having mentioned the S650, it was a very difficult challenge to accept the factory body color panel. It was not until I saw several panels that had been changed to black (semi-gloss) that I started feeling anything positive about that area of the car.

Has anyone heard of someone applying a 2k clearcoat. it would be more durable than the OEM surface.
I'd also like to hear if the aftermarket panels (such as Scott Drake) have the same issue. And if they are not, maybe a 2k black paint, and/or 2k clear may be what they have used.
I installed the Drake black panel on my 2020 mustang over 4 years ago and it still looks like new. I don't drive the car in inclement weather, but the panel still needs to be cleaned and I have no scratches. Four years ago, the panel only cost me $178.00, quite a bit cheaper than today.
Anyway, I highly recommend the Drake panel and I like the clean look.

Where do you guys get the PPF for that rear panel? Black would be good or Guard, but clear is fine too. Dang it!
