111K miles, 3.7L clutch likely dying. Any experience with sourcing replacement OEM or aftermarket?

Wanting to try my hand at replacing the clutch myself and sourcing before it lets go, but trying to find information specific to the 3.7 s550 has me questioning if I've recently suffered a stroke. Add to that, Ford wants $650 for a clutch kit that is always on backorder and $1,300.00 for a flywheel. Anyone have experience with DIY OEM or aftermarket installs? How likeley is the flywheel needing replacing? How did you source parts? If atermarket, what were the differences in your driving experience?

You can probably resurface the flywheel, which would be a lot cheaper. Like $100-150ish. There's a lot of good aftermarket options for the gts but you'll have to do your research for the 3.7. If you resurface the flywheel I'd buy new flywheel bolts to be safe. They are cheap too so your talking around $200 compared to the $1300 for a new flywheel. Make sure everything is torqued correctly and line the tranny up right. Other than that it's not the hardest job on these cars.

Thanks for the input. Everything I looked at about the 3.7's dual mass flywheel read that it should not be resurfaced. The grit works its way down internally, and when installed will eventually sling out. Then you've got free floating abrasive in your tranny.
I'm not sure where to draw the line between cation vs carelessness on subject.

I do have a handful of Harbor Freight Pittsburg torque wrenches that cover the 50in/lb to 200ft/lb spectrum, but wonder if i should invest in something more "accurate"

Definitely new bolts all around, including the driveshaft.

I am leaning toward the gt flywheel replacement from Dana44, I just wonder how it will affect NHV. My s550 is remarkably quiet but beggars can't be too choosy. :)

Sorry didn't realize the 3.7s had a dual mass flywheel too. I wouldn't use a harbor freight torque wrench. I've had bad experiences with them in the past and you can get a decent craftsman or cobalt without spending big money. Never had an issue with either of them. The flywheel shouldn't increase nvh too much unless your looking at a lightweight one.
