Why doesn't anybody talk about braking distances when talking about tires?
If a better tire means shorter braking distances, isn't it worth the extra money to avoid a collision? Or worse?
The Tire Rack talks about it, and I think the Consumers Union might talk about it.
I think the car owners who compare tires for autocross or running laps probably apply a similar thought process (if not the same amount) into DD tires. I think that's way less than half of us on this forum.

The rabbit holes are out there, for those of us that look.
For those that didn't want to look, and just want to choose tires by price, there's only so much we can do to help them.

You can lead horse to water, but sometimes he's gotta sleep with the fishes. 🤷‍♂️

I think people are tired of paying such high prices for a good tire and feel they are overpriced. And I agree. I shouldn't have to pay 400-500 dollars for a good street tire.
Overpriced by what metric? It’s real easy to say things are overpriced without considering any factors of what it takes to engineer, develop, test, and certify something that can be the difference between life and death. There are plenty of reasonably priced “good” tires. There’s very few reasonably priced “great” tires. That’s the great thing about capitalism…nobody is forcing anyone to pay $400-500 per tire. Like everything in life, you typically get what you pay for.

I have noticed many people wanting suggestions on cheap tires. This blows my mind. Especially the people that have dropped $5k+ on power mods just to cheap out on tires.
What am I missing here? Am I in the minority? Tires are the one thing I won’t cheap out on.
I have not modified my GT in anyway to make more power. I honestly can’t afford it at the moment with the added upkeep. I guess I’d rather save my money for good tires and maintenance than a super charger.
I totally agree with you. My car is limited use now and I've put a set of Cup2's on it. Previously Michelin and Nitto.

My mustang is my daily so I’m rolling with conti extremecontact dws09.
Not as sticky as your Cup2’s but a great tire for my use case. Stock power GT, 285’s squared. I have to try to break traction otherwise they stick great

How true. Also consider someone has to pay for the advertising. Factor that into what your paying for.

Well….. my car is a commuter / fun car.

I don’t have a need to spend $300 each on tires on it because I’m not racing it or even pushing it much. (Once in a while ill take some twistys in the mountains around here but mostly just cruisin)

THAT BEING SAID….

OH MY GOD…. I wish i would have noticed the “ whoflungpoos” (mismatched front and rear at that!!!) that are one it….

the fronts are “Mavis” all season touring, which don’t seem to bad…… but i know nothing about them and it seems they flat spot pretty quick after sitting.

the rears are “suredrive” sports…. Which appear to be a firestone low end… and they SUCK….. bad!

Currently looking for some decent replacements in the $150-200 range!!!
I use General Tire G-Max AS-07, which are priced about where you're hoping. They're absolutely surprising! I came from Pilot Sport 4s to these, and the difference is handling (obviously, wet traction is pretty great). They hold up over time and definitely offer great value for the price. I hope this helps!

If you're a tire snob, be a tire snob, I like good tires. I'm a watch snob, you won't hear me ask a guy wearing a cheap watch why they didn't spend more on a watch. The actual intrinsic value of a watch is that it tells time.
I'm a pizza snob too! But I can enjoy cheap pizza as well and good pizza *gasp*

Like I said in a previous comment. I couldn’t care less what other people do to there car. As long as, they aren’t putting others in danger. I fear the same people to use cheap tires are the same people hauling ass in traffic. They will regret those cheap tires when they have to slam on the brakes.

I like watches. But, my most expensive one is maybe $600. I don’t have a desire for an expensive watch. The ones I have are relatively cheap and I like the way they look.

I don’t care what other people do with their money. Just don’t put others in danger.

It sounds like you do care what people do with their cars, I apparently do to, which is fine...

For arguments sake, I think max tire grip is max tire grip. If you have lousy tires, your max grip is different. If they heat up and get slimy faster, the get slimy faster, if they are lousy cold, they're lousy cold.
I mean, if you tow a 30ft camper in the rain, you need to drive like you're towing a 30ft camper in the rain. I don't look down on people with campers just because they're not peak automotive performance while they're towing a 30ft camper. They just better drive like it.

I’ll say it for a third time then done with ya. I don’t care what other people do with their cars as long as it doesn’t put others at risk.
If someone is towing a 30’ camper I’d expect them to have good brakes and tires for the safety of others

Look everyone! The guy who starts a thread passing judgement on people for buying cheap tires, who says he couldn't care less what people do with their cars, is done with me for pointing out that he cares what people do with their cars lol

I went a few years where I ran Michelins on the front and no name amazon tires on the rear because I like doing burnouts and would go through 3 or 4 sets of rears for every set of fronts.

And honestly most people who just daily drive their car don't need half the tire they put on it, it's not like you're getting loose on turn 3 at Talladega because you're running Atturos instead of Sport Cup 2s
