Hey my follow CS owners,

Quick question — does anyone know if the plastic piece behind the front emblem can be removed? I’m trying to install the aFe Power Dynamic Air Scoop, but that panel looks like it might be blocking airflow to the CAI. Is it held in with screws, or does it need to be cut out?

Appreciate any insight!

On my car it’s a permanent part of the grill. I used a 3/4” forstener bit to drill holes in it.

It is a permanent piece to the grille assembly but it isn’t part of the structural support area so you can use a dermal or other tool to remove it.

I would leave it. Even with that in the way it still gets plenty of fresh cold air from the grill. Those ram air tubes are completely nonsense gimmicks.

If you cut it open then you'll be ramming rain water in to the air box while driving. That's why the panel is there in the first place.

Just drive backwards in the rain. Duh!

Also I recall reading somewhere that opening it up too much may mess with the stock tune on the car, since it is adjusted for a specific amount of air (stock opening through the tubing)?

Yeah plus the ram air effect creates turbulance at the MAF which can cause issues. The OEM design is still drawing in nice cool air from that bumper area.

Studies have shown ram air is of little to no affect in a modern car. At 75mph your looking at less than 1% positive air pressure. The factory box and "ram air" tube are not large enough nor at they constructed to seal effectively enough to allow for the effect of increased positive air pressure. As far as opening that panel, go for it. It wont do anything but make the grill look better. Opening it up wont let water get in, it wont. The AFE air scoop and the Velossa Tech intake snorkel will be abut as affective as adding racing stripe or flowmaster sticker. Youre better off upgrading from the filter back and getting a tune. The factory filter is too restrictive and the intake tube is constrictive.

I liked the 2016 White California Special so much that I adopted the front spoiler, hood & side stripes, black spoiler and black hood scoops off of one to combine with other special add-on's (Anniversary package & side scoops) for a unique look.

The finished convertible was featured in the September 2024 "Mustang Times Magazine".
