Are locked tuners still worth anything?

I change cars fairly often do now I have 2 programmers but they are locked to the vehicle. Are they paper weights or ??

I know some places will let you send them in to get unlocked for a fee. Most people just sell them locked at a discount and let the new guy take care of it.

Not sure about the Livernois but the SCT can be unlocked if it has unlocks left and you pay

Also you can use it as a data logger even if its locked

Livernois told me they’ll unlock it for $300, I have one with a flex tune that’s now just collecting dust.

So you traded in the vehicles with an aftermarket tune, but didn't include the tuner with it?

I didnt know at the time. I was misinformed.

I dont feel bad. I found PLENTY of shit they half assed on my car and didn't tell me about. I'd gladly give the tuners to the actual future owners of the car.

Just list it on ebay but be 100% clear that it is locked. I sold a locked one from a wrecked car back in the day. Don't expect to get much for it.

Hello; I get the OP was "uninformed" when the locked tuners were not included with the sold/traded cars. Situations such as this become a reason why I, so far, have passed on used Mustangs with a tune. Too many threads/posts about serious problems with a tuned car.

I decided to read this thread to learn what a "locked tuner" might be. Have learned more than that. The post saying that dealers likely will not include such a tuner when they resale such a tuned car is disappointing, but not a surprise.

It you know someone in a parts store get them to print you a recipe of a n̈ew computer. That is how I got my tune out of a jam. I had to mail it to them the turner with the receipt. I lost the tune that was on the car but the others were open and I retuned the cars tune.
