Well the last 2 Saturday's in a row I spent on Mustang wheel coating. First my Mach 1, then helped @cerbomark with his wheels last Saturday. So today was my daily driver's turn before the weather gets a lot colder... Spent the better part of the day cleaning and coating my Mazda's wheels (no polishing, car is driven to death ) Anyway, very happy with a day's work. Also cleaned the interior of both cars, did a quick clean of my Mach 1, the water beading on it's wheels is insane (Gyeon Q2 Rim) ...

Seeing the Mazda on jack stands on your sloping driveway gives me the shivers.

Both cars look great, but the Mustang is popping!

I’ve been using hydro2 lite on my uncoated EcoBoost and it’s got great slickness.

@DFB5.0 I just saw an intro of P&S Defender. It’s advertised as a longer lasting SiO2 topper that has the gloss and slickness of Beadmaker but has more durability. Have you looked into or tried it?

I'm guessing you were watching the Day-4 OG Sema coverage that featured Bob Phillips talking up Defender?

From what I can tell, Defender hasn't met their sales expectations. I suspect they were expecting big things, as in a Bead Maker 2.0 type reaction. I bought a bottle on release nearly 18-months ago and it never really impressed me enough to buy more.

In contrast to what Bob was saying, it doesn't deliver Bead Maker-like gloss or slickness. It's slightly easier to apply, but nowhere near ADS Amplify in that regard. I also found it lacking in lubrication when using it as a drying aid, it feeling somewhat grabby. Defender is not a bad product, but in a sea of other similar products, I don't think it excels either.

Cabinet Purge!

Plonked myself down on the bucket and reorganized my main chemical cabinet. I try to keep regularly used or rotated products in that cabinet, with bulk quantity and occasional use products being located in another cabinet, same for dud or demoted products.

So, after reorg of the main cabinet, it was then decision time. Some products went into the surplus cabinet, some were set for the bin. Now, I know this will look incredibly wasteful, but there is reason here. The coatings were near empty and/or had been opened a long time ago, coatings shouldn't be stored like this for too long. The Power-Lock had a cracked lid, so the integrity of the product inside had been compromised. The polishes were near empty and opened a long time ago. The Poorboy's Wheel Sealant was dated 2014 and hasn't been used in years, so out it went. The Gyeon Q2 Wax has been open for too long, I wouldn't trust it now. The Autoglym stuff should have been binned years ago, I kept the Instant Show Shine for easy application on front bumper grills, the Super Resin Polish is outdated technology full of fillers, the Leather Balm horrible.

How did you find NV Wheel?

Ah yes, my driveway barely has any slope, but does have some nonetheless.... BUT, I do have a cinder block under the front tire on the other side and the E brake is on to hold the rear tire... I do it quite frequently plus the jack stays in place, the jack stands are there for safety mainly.. Plus my garage is WAY too narrow to use the jack in, I have done it, and do it when I have to but I am not a fan...

As for NV Wheel, I do find it is very easy to lay down, but really grabby removing. I read that you have to remove pretty quickly... The Gyeon Q2 Rim was much easier to lay and remove in that regard.. Don't know if the weather was the factor (temp and humidity very similar both times), but I won't buy NV Rim again unless it's performance really wows me.. The Q2 Rim so far is amazing. I rinsed my Mach 1 wheels yesterday and they cleaned fantastic 2 weeks later, and the beading is insane...

Pearl would be one the most disappointing soaps I have tested. Some will defend it by saying its "good value for money", not if you have to use three times as much to do what a Carpro or even Adam's soap can do. And even then, it doesn't foam, doesn't have much lubrication, doesn't smell nice or even clean that well.

When P&S started to get some attention during the peak of Bead Maker mania, they started to put other existing legacy products into the Double Black line to flesh out the range. Pearl was one of those, but it was really aimed at volume production-line detailing in a professional environment. But in the pro-sumer/enthusiast market, Pearl is terrible.

I did some of that recently, and I need to do some more. I have about 1/2 can of Can coat left that is over a year old, that stuff goes a LONG way and I have yet to use it all. I did use some last weekend though, shook it up and went to town with it. Will hang onto it for a while yet.. I ditched some CG stuff I have had since my dark ages of detailing (when I didn't know any better) but I still keep some VRP in the back for when I need some cheap and not so long lasting dressing I ditched some old school polish recently too, was Meguiars and it dusted TERRIBLE so I wasn't sad to see it go. I did so right after I used some KCx Micro cut. That stuff is fantastic

I found NV Wheel very similar, I struggled with the lack of a clear flash point. I surmised it was cheap for a reason. Interested to hear your thoughts on how it performs though.

Yes I agree, I used a whole GALLON very quickly. I felt like I had to use an entire coffee cup full to make any suds or lubrication... The only P&S stuff I have and use regularly now is Express, Brake Buster and Swift. And of course Rags to Riches

Yeah I don't like it. I really wanted to put up on all 4 stands and do all 4 at once. But that isn't a good idea... But having concrete is a HUGE bonus for me. I used jacks and stands in gravel for most my life til I moved here 5 years ago

As for NV wheel, I will know REAL quick how it performs. I drive a LOT and if it doesn't perform I will know soon. I did Can Coat on my Mazda last summer, it only lasted about 6 months. Of course my front clip looks like I took a sand blaster to it, this car really needed to be PPF . I wanted to like the NV coating as well. I put on my Mach 1 bumpers, sealed the bottle and went back 3 weeks later to use some more and it had turned to gel.. Oh well, that stuff is way more expensive too to throw away 1/2 bottle :(

Inspiration Radiance is the same, you need a crazy amount to get anywhere. Having said that, I do actually like Radiance, it adds some nice slickness afterwards.

I took your advice on Frost BIte too. I didn't bite LOL... I much prefer Lift, Snow+ or even KCx Active Foam. I bought some ADS decon, I need to try it next time I need a aggressive wash
