Question About Exposed Electrical Connection on Engine (V6)

I have a 2016 V6 convertible. This is the engine:

There appears to be an "exposed" electronic connection:

Is there supposed to be something covering that up? Like some sort of cable wrap or something? I've been driving around like this for quite a while, so it doesn't appear to make a difference, but now I'm curious.

I am also embarrassed to admit I don't know what this thing is.

That appears to be a pressure sensor for the intake manifold, measuring pressure / vacuum. The connectors have seals on them that keep the water out (within reason - don’t put a pressure washer right up on it). If you look around more, you will see many similar connectors that look the same way. I see several in your image, in fact. I do not see a problem in this image.

Thanks, Mike. I bought this used in March, and there were so many missing little pieces, I figured there might be a missing cover here.

At least not the plastic stuff.
If you just can't stand it, get the dedicated harness tape. It has a soft cloth like covering and adhesive that sticks to the wrapped harness very well without turning into a sticky, gloopy mess.

But, as Mike said, that is perfectly normal and needs nothing more done.

Those exposed connectors are fine. Nothing to worry about.
The V8 and the ecoboost have plastic covers on them for show, if the covers are removed then the connectors on those engines are also exposed. Doesn't make a difference.

Same answer, don't use the plastic electrical tape. Once that stuff gets hot it turns into a sticky mess. Cover the connector with it and you have a good chance to gum up the connector and attract dirt making it a bear to get off. Harness tape is a better option in nearly every underhood situation.

Referenced is a thread with several documents, one of which is a complete list of 2015-2017 schematics.

Using those as a reference and searching for "intake", this definition was noted:

"(ON INTAKE MANIFOLD) MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE & TEMPERATURE (MAPT) SENSOR"

Going back to your original question, yes, the existing connection is OK.
