That is a whole different issue then what is being discussed, that could very well be something else or loosening of the u joint or some give, I will make a video of my sound, which is the same as another member here did which only occurs when hard locked left, the motion of moving it slightly back and forth does not create this issue like you have, yours clearly is a steering rack issue.

I'm sorry. I didn't explain better. The sound in the video isn't the sound I'm hearing when I'm turning hard locked left. It's just a comparison between two cars that have, and don't have the issue you're describing. It's almost impossible to record the sound when the car is running and I'm pulling forward slowly to produce the "floorboard clunk at hard left". What I'm suggesting is that a worn steering rack could be causing that anomaly. As these cars have electric assist steering, the worn out internals could be clunking under left turn lock. I may replace that rack. I'll let you know if it's clears the clunking.

The steering rack could be, but my steering assembly and yolk has been replaced 5x and my GT500 started having this issue from the very beginning @18 miles, Plus I have had everything in my steering replaced (as mentioned in #118), plus this seems to be affecting many years and models and not just the gt500, as for your video yes its very similar, but mine is more repetitive. I did not hear in the video when you hard locked to the right, but did when you hard locked to the left, the question I have is were you standing still when that pop occurred or were you moving forward?

welp, ford has had my car back in the shop for 3 weeks now. Ford recommended replacing the struts so that is what they are doing now it works.

No their going to go the buy back route and resell it to someone else or scrap it, but considering you said that when they tightened/torqued bolts on the firewall and it stopped (if true) then that would be where the focus should be. But either way, be sure to keep this thread updated.

i Agree with the previous comment that I would focus on the part they retorque. I know you mentioned a plate near the steering column but If somebody could post a picture of the exact bolts that would be great. I have the service manual with torque specs and I could share those and I'll be willing to try it on my car

Per Ford they wanted them to replace the strut mounts, so we will see

Replaced the struts and it's still doing it, I've reached out to my Ford rep to let her know. I'm also sending over this blog and told her they can either figure it out or Ford can have it back. This isn't worth my anxiety everyday wondering if somethings going to break or fall off.

Too many cars same gen doing this, I don't thibk anything will fall off but it is anoying. You could ask then to retorque the same bolts they did last time. If that solves it, it means that is the issue and it needs to be retorque every few months or I know there is a product that comes to hold the bolt in place with the same torque, can't remember the name right now.

Thanks! That was it. I haven't been able to check under the car but Sonia's case would be perfect since the dealer already did this and it solved the issue for a few months. If they do it again, and it solves it, that could be the culprit. I would persue that route.

Its called locktight but I'm not about a messed up fix, they need to find out what is wrong.
