Dont drive on the 10 between Beverly Hills and Downtown.

There is a group of CHP guys stopping you for no front plates and loading ticket up to the neck, and marking them all as not repairable.

$585 in my BMW for no front plates, tinted front windows (mind you they were 50% tint), tint on glass where 3rd brake light is. No plates on car, even though it was 2.5 months old. He stopped me, even though it was new but there was no brackets for a plate so regardless of new or not, you had no intentions of putting them on and drilling holes. DMV showed plated where issued to vin, so he said deal with it.

I think it's hit and miss. I've driven around for 12 years without a front plate without ever getting stopped. Of course, it wasn't a MUSTANG I was driving! The cops probably didn't see me.

I haven't had my front plates on my Acura for 3 years and I've only been stopped by a CHP once. We were driving opposite ways and he came back and gave me a ticket.. double sided 3m taped it, got it signed off and took it right back off.

I'm not putting a front license on my mustang. I didn't put one on my Lancer for 2 1/2 years. Just sold it, now I have to walk lol jk

the dealership didn't put the bracket on. they told me it's in the trunk and to just use 3M tape if I need to get a ticket signed of lol

Section 5200 of the California Vehicle Code is what requires the front license plate. Given that many agencies are equipping patrol cars with cameras to scan the license plates which automatically checks for outstanding wants and current registration as the police car is driving down the street, those agencies will want to recover the costs of the updated patrol vehicle, so tickets are the easiest way to make money.

But the biggest use of "no front license plate" for law enforcement is "probable cause" to pull you over and look for other things in "plain sight". I remember checking dashboards for a BLUE high beam indicator. Yep, the vehicle code says it has to be blue. There are so many things an officer can cite for if you flunk the attitude test.

I drove my 2011 GT for four years with dark tinted windows and no front license plate. Never got a ticket for either but I guess I got lucky. Before the 11 I was driving a 2000 dodge dakota without a front license plate and got a ticket by a meter checker when I was parked roadside in LA.

I don't plan on putting the front plate on my 15 GT either. I just can't do it... unless I have to of course. The car's black so you can bet I'm tinting the windows too!

As some have mentioned getting fixit tickets, that is what I thought it was for 'JUST' the front plate citation.

Anyone in Calif get front plate missing ticket that cost you money?

I was told by the salesman that they do not install the front LP bracket. They leave it in the trunk. Has anyone gotten their car and the bracket WAS mounted? Had you specifically ask for it not to be mounted?

Anyone with bracket and plate in trunk '3M tape ready' tried attaching it for the (potentially) siting officer and had them not write you up?

I'm guessing trying that might raise his hackles and have him/her take a harder look at your car! Oh, I just realized if I do decide to tint the windows (35%), that missing front plate is a reason to pull you over. Once pulled over, looking the other way for tint violation might be a long shot, even for just 35%. (Ca. law says NO aftermarket tint allowed on Drvr & Psgr side windows.)
Given that trade off, I'll forego the tint, at least for a while. ;)

With the convertible having a smaller back window, tinting may not have as significant a look change as on a coupe, especially with already having a black top I'd guess. I'll have to Google 2015 convertibles with tint

Every new car I have purchased in Ca. has the dealer monkeys install the front plate frame. Pisses me off.

77 Corvette never ran a front plate, never been stopped. But I live outside of L.A. Now my girlfriend had replaced hers with Betty Boop, and she only got stopped once. When she passed a cop on the Freeway.
