I can do this with my automatic GT, in Sport mode. First gear is so low that the car seems super-sensitive to throttle position, which obviously changes when the driver is being thrown back and forth. Solution? Floor it. Hey, don't mess with success.

Mine does this too, but only when cold and first few miles starting out. After that, no problems. I think I can deal with it for now, as long as it doesn't get worse or happen after it is warmed up.

I pulled the clutch assist spring the first week I had it, not sure if it helped with this, probably with the bucking, but not the surging. but I do like the way the clutch feels now. A little stiffer, but nowhere near some other clutches I have driven in the past.

This may be your Torsen differential. It is completly different than a limited slip. Torsen may buck/ surg around turns.

My '87 does this too sometimes, it's not the car but the driver!!! I just shove the clutch in and goose the go pedal and then let out the clutch, back to normal, only does it at a few miles per hour speed once in a while.

Not for nothing, the Torsen is a type of LSD, purported to be better around corners than the clutch-type -- please look at this discussion:

Not to derail the thread, but not having seen a video of the issue at hand, I what I visualize from reading doesn't point me to thinking it's the Torsen differential -- particularly if folks are able to replicate the issue on an automatic, which would have the Trac-Lok clutch-type differential. When I think of bucking, I think of someone driving manual for the very first time, and jackrabbiting all over until they stall the car... Maybe we can get a video or some more descriptions?

I do agree that bucking doesn't seem like a typical characteristic but the op claimed he had pp and both happened while turning. I just said it is a possibility. Without video Im suggesting it's possible.

I have noticed this with my GT PP manual as well. At first it was more of a bucking type of feeling that I would get in 1st and 2nd at low RPM and speeds, but I removed the clutch pedal spring and it was much better. I think the spring caused a weird pivot point right around clutch engagement that caused this for me anyways. Now that the spring is gone it is a much better feel.

Just yesterday though, I started to feel a little surging at low speeds/rpm in 1st. I hadn't driven the car in close to a week due to traveling and the car was just started and pulled out of my garage. (about 65 ambient temp) I think this is probably just me getting used to a high HP car and my throttle modulation at low speeds/rpm in 1st, but I did notice it got better as I drove the car more.

I was also thinking about getting a tune and CAI in the very near future, so I am not sure if that will help at all, but I was kind of surprised how much it surged on me yesterday when I was first starting out.

Has anyone noticed a reduced amount of surging after a tune? Honestly it is probably just me getting used to this high HP car, but I am just curious about a tune making the throttle response better in this low range.

It's not you, that's why we have this thread.

Definitely an issue when the car is cold, if it's a simple fix I would do it, otherwise I'd rather not take it to the dealer. As long as it doesn't get worse or becomes an issue when it's warmed up.

I haven't driven the car since the night I brought it home from the dealer. It still only has 46 miles on it:(. It a fair weather car and it's been raining and snowing for the past week with salt all over the roads. Once the weather clears up, I'll do some more tests with the car.

The bucking I referred to in my original post did not happen as I was releasing the clutch. Both times I had released the clutch completely and was rolling in 1st gear about 5-10 MPH accelerating lightly to get up enough speed to shift into 2nd. The car bucked wildly (like it was fuel starved) for a couple seconds and then cleared itself.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep you posted.
