Hey guys. I thought I would post this here too aside from the main forum. As I’ve mentioned many times on here before about getting out of California, Tuesday was the day. Building a new house from the ground up in Daytona Beach Florida. January or February closing and I am out of this state. I will continue to do what I normally do, going up to cars and coffees and things until I go. Hopefully I can meet a few of you before I leave. I’m not off of the forum and I’ll still check out the California forum but it’s been great.

I’ve been down here for 3 years now. We also built from the ground up. We just listed our house on the market today. Our plan is to sell our gently used house and move 2 hours north to Ocala and build again. This will allow us to be centrally located between our two kids (one lives in North Port and the other in Yulee).

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you decide on Daytona?

My wife grew up in South Florida. Her mom and dad divorced a while ago. Her dad lives in Fort Myers and her mom is in a home in Marianna in the panhandle. Both my parents are gone so this was a no-brainer. Daytona is right between both of them about four hours each way. I promised my wife we would get there one day and now we’re there. The house is gonna be beautiful and I know she’ll be happy.

That’s awesome! I hope it’s everything you guys could ever want or imagine? Will you incorporating a nice place to store and work on the Mustangs?

I want a detached shop on the next go around.

It’s everything we could dream of. This house would cost about 1.5 million in California. The price differences are mind blowing. Two car garage with an extra space outside. I have the three cars but I’ve always dreamed of the Mustang garage. We shall see. I’m contemplating selling the 2019 when I get there but we shall see.

Right on! Coming from California, I assume you’ve probably mastered the art of making good use of space when it comes to storage, since there are no basements in either state. That was a huge adjustment for us coming from the Midwest, where we appreciated having a huge basement for storage.

There were some other things that were different for us about Florida as well, such as, most houses don’t come with gutters. We ended up having to add gutters as an upgrade. The other is, having to pour vinegar down the HVAC condensation drain pipe monthly to prevent condensation from backing up and shutting down the AC.

Building a new house from scratch is a big project but definitely rewarding. I recently went through a similar transition when I moved from California to Nevada, and it was quite the experience. Having a reliable moving company made a massive difference in the process. Feel free to reach out if you need any tips or recommendations for making the move easier. For my move, I used an online transport company that helped streamline everything. If you need any information, this article: https://threemovers.com might help you.

Thanks for the offer. I am still ways away from getting quotes but I will keep this in mind. I really don't want to transport two Mustangs so I am going to sell the 2019 before I go. Then it will be the Mach 1 only. Get the cost down there and the money from the '19 will help furnish the new place as we are bring as little furniture as we can for the 2,400 mile move.

Smart thinking there. We just went under contract with buyers for our house last Thursday and our plan is going to remain the same as it was when we moved down here. We will sell as much furniture as we can and put the rest in pods to be stored while we built the next house. We used Pack Rat for that service previously and that worked out very well. They seemed to be better than PODS (which are reportedly smaller).

I’ve already removed all of my wall art in my garage and patched, retextured and painted all holes in the cinder blocks and drywall.

I’ll be honest, things are about to get really busy around our house soon with packing, removing my recessed MC lift and 2 post car lift. The buyers want the recessed MC pit filled in, along with the holes where the car lift was bolted down, so I’ll be handling that and touching up the epoxy.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work for the lifts. It sounds like you've done it before.

I am assuming you pack your own POD and they come and get it? I would worry about the large TV's for a trip that long with me doing it.

It will be a little bit of work on the recessed MC lift pit. I have no experience with concrete work. But I’m about to learn pretty quickly, lol.

I did install the 2 post lift by myself (with the exception of having my wife and daughter help me stand up the lift towers). Thankfully, I thought ahead for a situation such as this when I installed it. I drilled all the way through the concrete before installing the anchors, so I could hammer them through and patch the holes when the time came to remove it.

Your TVs shouldn’t be a problem at all. We packed ours in TV Boxes with foam corners and made sure to position them in the pods in a way that there would be little, to no possibility of damage. We used lots of tie downs and strapped down EVERYTHING! Believe it or not, I strapped my MC lift all the way forward and to the left in one pod and then loaded my Sportster on it and strapped it down. Nothing shifted at all during the long haul from KC to the FL Pack Rat climate controlled storage facility and to our new house. We used tons of quilts (purchased on Amazon or at Harbor Freight), lots of bubble wrap and shrink wrap. I was extremely anal about it. If you approach it that way, you should be fine.
