Tough decision!

So I have my new Mustang all picked out, my dealer has the specs and will order it any day now for a late Winter early Spring delivery. Ruby red Ecoboost, automatic, with 50 year appearance package. Yes, I test drove one in stock. So what's the problem? Well, yesterday I test drove an automatic GT at another local dealer and I can't stop thinking about how awesome all that power felt! And so smooth!

The practical side of me is saying I don't need that much horsepower. I'm 65 years old, won't be racing it, and know the insurance will be less on the Ecoboost. Plus, my wife may divorce me if I upgrade to the GT. (She was with me for the GT test drive). I know all you muscle car guys will tell me to get the GT. Any other insight would be appreciated.

My feeling is that you deserve what you want at this phase in life, regardless of what you need. This will be my last new car and a retirement gift for many years of public service, I am treating myself.

The decision comes down to yours truthfully.

However I also believe that you should treat yourself to what you desire. Look at it this way you get the ecoboost great your happy you like the car, but deep down inside you will always wonder what if I got the GT and then youll think about it and eventually you wont like the ecoboost anymore because you will crave a bit more out of the car.

So to save yourself the hassle get the GT enjoy it in moderation and when you want to have a spirited drive around town you can do that as well. Its a win win situation really.

then driving that in the future will have more of those to come

my mind constantly tells me ecoboost because it's cheaper and gets better mpg...but my heart wants gt... heart wants what the heart wants!

I'm a few years younger than you, but my biggest regrets have always been things I didn't do rather than the things I did. Get the GT as long as your checkbook and marriage can handle it.

GT all the way. If you're regretting it now, imagine driving the EB. Gas mpg with a mustang? Pffft. Insurance? Shoot at 44, I pay 90 a month. Can't see you being expensive.

GT all the way...this will be my first Mustang and that V8 just spoke to me...a much more visceral, emotional engine IMHO...with no disrespect to the ecoboost owners.

If you buy a Mustang buy a GT. Simple as that, otherwise you might as well buy anything else.

I just read my wife all the replies so far. The only one she liked was the guy who said I was too old! Ha ha ha!

I was all set to buy a GT Auto with 3.55. Mrs and I went to test drive one and they only had the GT PP. Power was nice and smooth. Pulled stronger than my wives 370z. Since the only auto GT they had in stock was the LE in WW we decided to get it. Long story short they wanted $20k ADM for the LE. I looked at my wife and said for that I could wait for the GT350.

Bottom line I don't need that power either at my age but hey...we might as well go for it.

GT all the way. There's nothing worse than buyers remorse. I agree that in this phase in your life you should buy what you want not need. Oh, and go manual! A non V8 Stang automatic is for sissies (no offense EB and V6 owners ohhh and auto owners) ha! Go for it man!!
