I'm not a manual driver, so I could be off base on this, but it would seem to me like it might be helpful to show if you're in 1st, 3rd, or 5th before you let off the clutch since they're all next to each other and it could be hard to tell which one you grabbed.
any seasoned manual driver should know what gear they are in by speed and rpm, and remembering the last gear they shifted into

Speaking of the info center, one thing I would like on the Trip/Fuel menu is the ability to reset individual parameters like on the S197. Here, you have all 4 sections with 1 "hold ok for reset". But lets say I want to time a trip but I don't want to zero my mileage....can't do that. On my 2007, I was able to reset just the time, miles, mpg separately.

BONUS Feature: Show current gear selection (manual) on display as well.
That's kinda like asking Ford to add a display to tell you if your foot is on the brake or gas... When you learn to drive a stick you'll realize how silly that is.
Then again, I think 80% of the electronic crap on most new cars is, well....crap.

Nailed it. Seriously, anyone who has ever driven a manual for any length of time knows that its a silly request. The Hoonicorn does not count, thats a purpose built car, and Ken is thinking about a billion things while driving.

I have been driving for almost 50 years and have always had at least one manual transmission in my stable of vehicles. With the short throw close ratio manual transmissions they are putting in cars a indicator in the dash for which gear you are in would be a welcome addition. It certainly is not a silly request.

When out cruising I find myself always trying to shift one more time in my Focus ST. There is so little difference in rpm between gears and with the short throw 6spd shifter it's hard to tell the gear from the lever position with out taking your eyes off the road.

On the ST they went through the trouble to put a shift ARROW and which gear to shift into in the display why not make it a configurable option with one being just showing the gear and another being off?

My SCT X4 Tuner allows you to set it at a high rpm to be used as a shift light or turn it off. I did ask them about just having it configured as a gear indicator, they said they were not working on it.

Motorcycles have been doing it for years why not cars?

I agree it would be nice to have a digital speedometer. I don't want a readout of what gear I'm in. For me that's part of becoming familiar with the car - looking out at your speed and knowing by rpm which gear you're in and what to shift to if shifting is appropriate for the situation.

Rather than indicators to show what gear you're in, an arrow to show where to move your shifter, and another to show what gear you need to shift into, why not let the trans do it for you - automatically!

With that kind of attitude we all should be telling Ford to get rid of rain sensing wipers, automatic head lights, auto dimming rear view mirrors, back up cameras, keyless push button start and all the other features they put in cars these days that are not needed to drive. An indicator in the dash to tell you what gear the transmission is just as valid as anything else.

My wifes car has a configurable TFT digital dash. There are two styles of digital speedo and two styles of analog speedo that you can select from.

She likes the digital speedo, I find it distracting and select one of the analog choices.

What I find distracting is when cruising down the road the speedo is in my peripheral vision. The numbers only have to change by a digit (for example 44-45) and my attention is drawn away from the road, when it happens alot, which it does, it gets annoying to me.

Please program Gauge Mode in center dash to include Digital Speed Display. This is an important safety feature. I see there is a screen now dedicated to only display distance to empty. This screen can easily be upgraded to show large digital speedo. DTE is also shown on about 3 other screens! Please make dealer update available as most cars included this feature today. Thanks!

BONUS Feature: Show current gear selection (manual) on display as well.
Sorry for jumping on late and I'm sure there are similar comments and questions.

Honestly I don't see the point of a digital speed display right beside an analog one.
I also see zero safety benefit.
I'm sure many, if not most people on here drive with the flow of traffic and shift based on feel. I only look at my speedo on open roads with no traffic to make sure I haven't accidently exceeded the posted speed by too much.

use speedo - only in open roads or areas known for speed traps
use tach - only when pushing the car, otherwise I go off feel.

I haven't used a digital speedo in years but on my old GrandPrix GTP (HUD) and 300ZX the digital display was always slower than the actual acceleration.
On the 300ZX it would cause a bump off of redline around 400-600rpm early.

Do you need a digital watch also to check the time?

Oh, and I didn't even touch on the gear indicator.
We should do a poll on how many people don't know what gear they're in based on,
- position of the shifter
- position of the shifter and RPM
- position of the shifter, RPM and speed
- None of the above, I need a big number to tell me

I know what gear I am in just by sound and shifter position alone. I typically don't look at the RPMs or speed while I drive.

Exactly my point. I think most of us are like that.
