Just wondering if anyone has a super smooth a10? Mine is pretty smooth in S but still doesn’t feel super smooth. Has some aggressive shifts that are not like silk for sure.
I understand the potential fixes including trans fluid, resets etc but mine does not seem as bad as others.

Just wondering if anyone has a super smooth A10 or is the nature of the beast simply not smooth even at its best?

I would not classify mine as smooth. It has some bite which I would expect in sport mode.

The smoothest auto trans that I've had was in my '92 T-bird Sport. Ford even polled owners like me asking specifically about shift smoothness back then. Of course in '92, Ford was pursuing best-in-class for the T-Bird. And Mustang, as you can guess, was not part of that class.

All that said, I'm pleased with smoothness in my Mustang's normal mode and the bite during gear change in the sport mode.

Well, it's not a Mustang, but the A10 in my '19 5.0 F150 is an unrefined turd of a transmission compared with the A8 in my '23 Jeep Wrangler...

Mine is smooth in normal mode, but quicker and firmer in S. I had mine tuned to a 5% bump in line pressure (is S). Other than the tune, changed the fluid/filter and pan to a aluminum PPE, which bumps the capacity a bit (slightly deeper). All in all happy with it... now that I say that, here come the problems.

I think I read that the GM 10L80 is mechanically the same as they developed it together. I don't know if there are any Camaro owners here who could chime in but whatever I was reading said the GM implementation was much smoother. I have also read that turning off learning actually makes it smoother. Do you know if it is possible to turn off learning using Forscan?

Who did the tune?

My guy in Northern Virginia (Manassas). If you're localish I can give you his #.
I am not, however I have to go there frequently for work and I don't know anyone where I live so if you have a guy you trust I would bring it in.

I would second that. I have the manual in my Mach 1 and wouldn't have it any other way even if the A10 is a tad faster. I have the A10 in my 2020 V8 F150 and can't believe it is a production piece because it has the smoothness of a bag of rocks and the programming is so slanted towards trying to improve fuel economy that it is painful to drive in anything other than Sport mode. I truly hate automatics to start with, but this one sets a new low. The auto in the 4 series BMW my friend drives is at least usable if you absolutely must have a car with an auto.

A10 here as well. In D it’s super smooth, no issues. In S, the shifts are little harsh but I believe that’s by design. Supposed to be more aggressive. I’ve thought about having the dealer do a reprogram to try to make it a little less harsh but I don’t think it will change much.

As for the GM 10 speed, yes it was a collab with Ford. GM’s tuning is different, some are of the opinion that the GM tuning is far superior. I’ve driven one, I didn’t find it that much different but I’m sure if I lived with one I could find differences. As to which one is better, that’s individual preferences.

Not too bad with my 22 GT. I had a 2018 EB mustang that the A10, it was horrible. This one better but still get bad shifts once in a while. I also have a 2019 RAM truck with ZF8 auto. The Ford A10 aint even close...Thats the best auto Ive ever had...

When I first got the car it was jerky as many others reported. I did 3 things that while individually only made small increments on their own, overall really transformed the unit:

- topping off the pan as it was about 1qt low from the factory
- Ford Performance tune (or any other good tuner)
- resetting/disabling adaptive learning parameters

Is it perfectly smooth now? No...but it's significantly improved over when I first got it.

When I got my 2021 Ecoboost used it was shifting very weird, hard shifts and and seemed to be searching.
Once I applied the Cobb built in tune its been great. Don't know if Cobb did anything to the trans or it just reset everything.

I also had Ford service it at 65000 but more for preventive reasons and not knowing the cars full history
