Ford has always been able to reflash your PCM. They just can't read a scrambled OSID, so can't read what the car actually is... Lund does this so you can't read the tune, but it doesn't stop you from erasing the bootloader and reflashing the PCM with the original tune. To pull this tune they would just use AS BUILT data based on your VIN. Nothing has changed.

Right, he has no access to your car without having the Lund device. 100% unacceptable in my book. The car's computer is not his to lock.
For safety recalls, I think there's actually laws about this. I don't think they have to ask for permission. I'm sure I've read they don't have to inform you prior to carrying out the fix. However, I doubt any dealer would increase their workload by flashing the car back to stock just to read the car and reprogram the module.

Based on what the tech at Ford told me, he can take the tune off but in my case I had left the Lund device at home, therefore he couldn’t do it.
That sounds more like he is familiar with Lund's tuning setup.. and he was going to do it the easy way using their software. If he wanted to, he 100% could have erased the module and reflashed the stock tune.

If this is true why are there many who went to Ford with tuned cars without the programmer needing new ECU's? I know of at least one overseas company that will unlock the scrambled ECU's but they require the ECU on a bench. You have to send it to them.

I am a few years out of the loop on this.

The original programmer has nothing to do with it. You may need to pull the PCM but that’s not hard… regardless all they have to do is erase the PCM and reload the original firmware. Any ford authorized dealer/shop should have access to this firmware. I’ve seen multiple people ‘brick’ their PCM when their battery died while flashing tunes. Every time they get charged 0.7 * shop rate for reflashing the original firmware.

People sending their PCMs overseas?? That sounds more like people trying to read the current state of the PCM (like reading the tune).

I’ve seen multiple people
It's no longer 0.7 labor rate at least not in my area. I have three local dealers within 50 miles of me and I have been quoted 1 or 2 hours labor to do the return to as built calibration which as of a month ago equals 145 to 290 dollars.

Well I’m not sure about labor time changes but my point was it can easily be done at a dealer.

Reflashing a module and initializing it should have a fixed book time. Any book times I’ve seen in ford documents have been the same. 0.3 to 0.7 hours. Removal and replacement looks like it’s 0.9-1.4 hours book time, so maybe that’s where the time is coming from.

I do hope this is true. I called my local dealer where a friend works. I was told they cannot re-flash a bricked or scrambled ECU. Has to go to Michigan.

I asked him to check other dealers if he gets time.

Warranty book time are a fixed rate but when it comes to customer pay times it up to dealer as to what they charge. The dealer should go by a standard customer book time but not all do that just like a new car should be sold for MSRP but how many dealers put admin fees on the high end special cars.

I worked in new car dealers for 25+ years as a tech and can assure you not all dealers use the same book times for certain job operations. It has gotten much worse since the covid debacle. My selling dealer has told me many times that they have multiple issues with fords IDS and FDRS systems working dependably on a daily basis, whether it's their system/internet service or fords system I have no clue, but it is not a flawless system.

I called and inquired what the cost would be to just return my ecoboosts PCM from the FP tune back to the as built tune only, no replacement or removal of PCM involved in that process.

i don't mean to be dumb here but why not check to see if that warning light does come on if one lowers the fluid level in the brake reservoir. It could solve alot of headeachs.

Or just unplug it , that is the check to see if the update fixed it .

An update on the above. I removed the Lund tune back to stock, reinstalled the Roush intake insert piece back and the car runs great with no issues. Took it to Ford for the recall, it took them about 20 mns. To complete the recall task. Now I am going to enjoy the stock for some time and put the Lund tune back. For some reason, the car sounds louder without the tune with my Corsa cat-back.

I had a 2015 GT premium with Lund tune, whether I was in town or in the interstate the performance was always there to satisfaction, but this time having it in the PP2 it only comes alive in the interstate on 4th and 5th gear. I wonder why so? Any input would be appreciated.

I just learned a lot reading through this.. I just got a 2017 GT PP1 about 3 months ago. 8,909 miles Garage kept. Anyway, I am looking through a lot of the Mod's and upgrades you guy's have made. I have to say it feels great to finally be in a real platform.. I am still stock for now but have some upgrades in mind for sure. And later on down the road we'll see. But anyway I have been thinking about going to Ford to see if this has any recalls I don't know about. I bought it from a chevy dealer that mostly sells Vett's, And when I bought the car I don't really think they knew what they had... Anyway I plan to little buy little this car into a runner..

When you did the restore file did you just click the restore file and hit write, or did you hold and do a normal/full/ or restore stock calibration?
