This week, Ranger Wildtrak 18-inch wheels.

IMG-5334.jpg

These have had a few different finishes over the course of PX II and PX III Ranger's, this version has a machined face with dark painted inner spokes and barrel.

This car is actually driven, so where most of my cars don't need the use of a wheel cleaner, these need a little chemical assistance. Most times, I use Brake Buster from my foam cannon. For the tires, I need more grunt, so I tend to use Brake Buster undiluted or a variety of other rubber specific cleaners.

Come over to the Dark Side, eh? <smiling> I have to admit, I like the way it looks, D. Still haven't tried OG's product, been too busy unfortunately.

Nonetheless, here's another Wheel Wednesday. <grin>

This week, the dreaded Performance Pack Wheels..........................

I drove myself insane for 4 years attempting to keep these things clean, using a large assortment of brushes to do it properly!

But wait, there is actually something worse than cleaning PP1 wheels..................................polishing them!

I will admit though, when clean they looked stunning and really suited the car!

Really? Thats shocking! You neurotic about cleaning? No? Lol.

Just kidding, your compulsive cleaning knowledge, expertise and routines are a benefit to everyone at this forum, i have sent your threads to people outside the Forum multiple times when they ask me about cleaning processes….

Keep spreading the word and skills DFB!:thumbsup:

They DO look great, D but I think if I had those, I would dread "Car Washing Day." :-) Well done.
Lol i was thinking the same thing.. they look fantastic though, but wow! My car washing time has already increased by 50% at least…

When i get ready to wash my car now, instead of in the old days, a bucket, a sponge and some soap, now i roll out the pressure washer, foam cannon, air cannon, detailing cart full of brushes and different cleaning agents, instead of 20 minutes its over an hour….

Now im not complaining the results are worth it and its kind of a labor of love….

DFB, im fairly new here, are you a professional detailer? Or just a super fanatic personal vehicle cleaner? Either way i appreciate your wealth of knowledge and detailing compulsiveness.

Thank you! :like:

People often struggle to comprehend why someone would take so long to "wash" their car, but if it's something you love, spending more time and money on the task is a no brainer. I spend 80-90% of my week doing stuff for other people, as in work, so when I have downtime, I want to do what makes me happy. Be that actually detailing the car itself, researching and buying products, watching or listening others detailing, right through to writing and sharing information about it.

I think the technical term for me is "Pro-sumer". While I do occasionally detail for money, its mostly an extreme hobby. I could easily turn this into my profession, I have everything I need and more to do so at a high level, but...........................................I'm not willing to jeopardize this thing that has made me happy by turning it into a full-time job. I did that with gardening, turning my weekend hobby as a teenager into my career, and now it's just a job.

Man I love mine too but I hate to clean them. Having good quality chemicals and tools does help. They are now my winter/beater set so I am not going to be quite as picky. Just clean best I can thru the winter and do a deep clean when I take them off in the spring. My Velgen are a joy to clean so I don't mind those, 20's and nice big wide areas, I can reach my hand and arm into the barrel if I need to :)

I hear ya DF, come early spring after myself and my fun cars have been cooped up all winter, i actually long for a chance to detail my cars… nothing better on an early morning, or a late summer night than detailing IMO.

i have - and i bet lots of you guys have - had to kick on the lights as it is getting dark and im still putzing with my car cleaning.

I am by far not as skilled, knowledgeable or equipped as you but still feel a bit of pride when friends or family will comment on how good my vehicle might look after detailing it and ask how do you do it? What did you use? Or comment, could you do that to my car…. My answer to the latter is come on down, you can use my stuff but ill just watch and tell you what to do next… lol

oh off topic and not looking to drag out more crap every time i wash my car, but i am in the market for a decent detailing stool. Currently i use a non wheeled 25 - now 39$ rubbermaid stool but want one with wheels, one that will roll around on pavement not in my garage, and one with some storage for whatever spray and detailing brush/tool/gadget i might be using at the time.

Ive been eyeing the griots and adams and chemical guys ones… and looking at the vyper… id love to buy an american made vyper, but man, they are frikken pricy.. im not sure they are worth the 3-4 times price of the others….
If they are, a vyper might be my winter gift to my cars/self in late february when i get to the point of im sick of winter and “cant wait for the snow to melt” so i can start detailing again this spring preparation mood…

2 years ago, it was a bunch of polish angel detailing products, last year it was an air cannon…

Those that have a Vyper chair rave about them, but yes, very expensive. I also think they are a touch too high for wheel cleaning, although that is very subjective.

I know these are sold everywhere, but I think the classic detailing seat sold by the usual suspects is the one to go for.

IMG-0761.jpg

My advice would be just get the basic version of that seat without all the useless side attachments that just end up falling off (the Griots one in particular).

I've got one similar in my Amazon wish list. About $70 so not too bad expensive.

@DFB5.0 I FEEL you on the job/hobby thing. I'm a photographer and I'm almost down to zero percent of my time with a camera is hobby related.
Outside of a few pics of car/dog it's WORK.

For wheel Wednesday I've been doing PERL on my tires for most part and happy but wanted to try dark side. Can these work together? Or is it dark side maybe once a month and Perl to maintain ??? Or is it a full switch between the two?

I hear you LOUD and clear, John although I will occasionally detail a friend's vehicle as long as they are there the whole time to help. <smiling>

My biggest complaint for the Vyper along with that huge circle of tubing which seems too wide.

My advice would be just get the basic version of that seat without all the useless side attachments
I think I'm gonna continue to wear out my old wheeled stool for awhile longer even if it is heavy and, makes a whole bunch of racket when I roll it across the exposed aggregate driveway.

I've got one similar in my Amazon wish list. About $70 so not too bad expensive.
That sure looks like it was made with the same frame as Adam's, just different wheels, Alex but even seventy bones seems crazy to me and I am one of those who believes in you get what you pay for so I don't consider myself "thrifty." <laughing>

The old stool is gonna have to do, at least it's the correct height.
