Has anyone had hydrographic designs applied to engine parts like valve covers or tops of superchargers? Looking to dress up the engine bay.

I can’t see it being a problem, I had my old Evo X cam cover done 10+ years ago and it had no issues

That looks great šŸ‘ You don't see so much of it in the UK.

It seems to get a poor reception in the UK but there’s definitely a place for it if it’s properly done

My car generally gets a poor reception so it'll fit in nicely.

I built a bike for a friend in 2017 / 2018 after he got the frame hydro dipped, it’s as tough as any other paint job that I have worked with :

It still looks as good / identical to the day I built it :like:

That will need a ā€˜big’ bath … lol

The place he used was typically doing wheels, grill surrounds and wing mirrors etc for the VW scene (along with smaller parts for drones and RC cars) :like:

Can I get bespoke graphics done, like if I want "Mach 1" logos or something like that?

It’s a while ago since we were talking to the company that did that frame, so things may have moved on - but I’m sure we’re we’re told it was possible, but not as high a quality as the ā€˜bought’ films.

The only trouble I could see with the M1 logo is that due to the nature of of the process, the image distorts as it’s stretched around profiles and shapes. It’s not noticeable on a print like the skulls or lightening etc, but it would be very obvious on square edges or straight line shapes.

In my opinion, it’s one of the reasons hydro dipped carbon looks very poor on some components when compared to real carbon - it might look ok on mostly flat surfaces, but it soon looks crap / obviously fake when it comes to depressions and corners etc.

It really comes down to who’s doing it, my mate is a painter and also hydrodips, he’s pretty good at it imo!

I wouldn’t disagree with you and that part does look particularly nice :sunglasses: but it’s also reasonably flat …

I bet it still goes a bit wonky in that depression on the right side though ?

Look at say a wing mirror shell, the front face would typically look quite nice but the upper / lower / left / right edges and the corners that connect them would be ā€˜interesting’ - again, all in my opinion … :like:
