Nice way of glossing over all the lost jobs. When the mandates kick in these companies will raise the price of EV's. Then what? more subsidies? Move to inner cities and use public transportation?
No need for me to gloss over GM’s cuts. They are normal and were expected. I spent 38 years at GM and witnessed at least 5-6 of these realignment events. In fact, I took an early retirement in 2017 to get into consulting somewhere right in between two of these events. I’m sure you would not have heard of the two reduction events I’m speaking of because there wasn’t an EV transition going on at the same time like there is now. I know a lot of people who are leaving the company in this current event and to a person they feel good about it.

When the one before I retired was offered, I didn’t take it because the financials didn’t fall in my favor. About 2,000 salaried employees were reduced out of the company then. The one that happened about a year and a half after I left seemed like a good deal, based on talking to a few of my friends who actually took it. I retired without an incentive program and that one had a decent incentive program. This current one had an even better incentive attached.

Leading up to this last offering GM spent about four years hiring people with technical skills in the areas of battery engineering and system design and electric motor engineering and design. Then when the separation program was rolled out, it was available to people who had been with the company five years or more. In other words, protecting the people who came into the company with new EV focused skills. So for most of the people who’ve taken it (I know a lot of them) they have experience and expertise in areas supporting development and manufacture of ICE focused technologies. Areas GM is moving away from. Many were already nearing retirement eligibility, so the up-to-one year of salary paid out helps to smooth that path.

You still glossed over all the ancillary jobs that will be lost. Well to be fair you didn't gloss over them you ignored them.

We are not running out of oil, we are not killing the Planet and we do not need electric cars forced upon us.

This should open eyes. It’s about recycling and how much of a sham it is. Some people are willfully blind and that’s ok. Reality has a way of hitting really hard when it does.

Gotta be honest, haven’t looked at this and ain’t gonna. Can’t take more than about 45 seconds of Scotty at a time. More about his delivery than his message. Feel free to summarise what he says, ‘cause I simply will not watch it.

Ancillary jobs will be lost. Jobs in industries that are launching anew will be gained. Furnaces put chimney sweeps out of business. Fuel injection put carburetor manufacturers out of business. It’s the circle of life.

65% of the recycles are sent to third world nations. There about only 9% of everything that gets there actually gets recycled. Many of these nations don’t have the infrastructure to recycle plastics. What they don’t recycle 91% of what’s there is thrown in the oceans. We recycle about 40% of all recyclables.

Are EV sales declining? Electrifying the car market may be getting harder. Here's why (msn.com)

“…share of Americans who say they’re “very unlikely” to consider an EV for their next vehicle purchase growing in each of the first three months of the year, according to a new report. “

“In March, 21% of new-vehicle shoppers said they were “very unlikely” to consider an EV, up from 18.9% in February and 17.8% in January,”

“While about four in 10 U.S. adults think using EVs helps address climate change “a great deal” (12%) or “a fair amount” (27%), roughly six in 10 believe it helps “only a little” (35%) or “not at all” (26%), according to a Gallup poll fielded March 1 - 23.

“Only about 4% of Americans currently own an EV, Gallup said, “
In other words, 74% of Americans understand that EV’s do in fact offer us something, and yet have so far chosen not to own one….and YOU can’t understand why mandates might be needed…..

Quite clearly people aren’t necessarily doing things that are in line with their beliefs. Wouldn’t THAT be precisely why mandates might be required?

Except in this case it is forced. Again if BEV"s were truly better there would be no mandates or subsidies.
Define “better”.

That's a strange logic. They have chosen not to own one because they have decided that, despite them offering something, whatever it is they offer isn't enough to offset the downsides. Mandates won't change that.
I'll decide myself what my beliefs are and how to act according to them, thank you very much. I don't need you, or anyone else, to impose my own beliefs (or whatever you think they are) upon me.

Define “better”.
That's for each individual customer to define. It won't be better for me just because someone has devised an official definition of 'better'. It's better for me when I decide myself, of my own accord, to buy one without being forced to.

Hello; So many ways to respond. First tho, let me thank you for another 'you morons cannot be trusted to do what's right so mandates are required' Gregs's type post.
Here is what I get from you the last months. You are a true believer with regard to BEV's for sure and green energy very likely. Based on multiple post you have made.

First the low hanging fruit. So those among that 74%, according to you, know they really need to buy a BEV to save the planet. Yet many will go against their own best interests and will buy another ICE.
I could question the lumping numbers together to get the 74% you cite, but not just yet. Let me focus on the 12%. "U.S. adults think using EVs helps address climate change “a great deal” (12%)"
I would count you among the 12% if you happened to live in the USA. Yet you recently bought an ICE vehicle. I think you made a wise choice, but regardless it is that you have the option to make a choice being a main point.

I could break down the percentages another way and spin them to support that only 12% think EV's help the climate a lot, while 88% think they do not help so much. Another could parse the numbers a different way depending on the spin they desire. The telling number is the “Only about 4% of Americans currently own an EV, Gallup said, “.

Enjoy the new ICE.

Hello; I and many other have been describing how an ICE is better than a BEV for months. This is too easy. Even you yourself proved the point by buying a new ICE over the planet saving BEV's you could have bought.
I get the reasoning you have repeated several times. No BEV was a good fit for your needs and lifestyle. You made the better choice and bought the better vehicle, an ICE.
I give you points for being tenacious with the 'do as i say and not as i do attitude'. If such a thing were to exist, I would vote for you to get a J. Kerry type of award.

Many times in these discussions the topic of scale is one of interest. This article highlights some of the problems the UK is having. Seeing as how we have several areas within the US with near non-functioning grids, I suspect the US will encounter similar issues.

Hello; From the link.
"Energy companies like Octopus Energy, one of Europe's largest investors in renewable energy, say they have been told by National Grid that they need to wait up to 15 years for some connections - far beyond the government's 2035 target."

"Torbay Council has been hit by the delays. The diggers are already clearing the ground for a 6-hectare solar plant it is building in Torquay. It is due to be finished next year.
The council plans to use money raised from selling the energy to help fund local services, but it has been told the plant will not be connected for five years.
And even that date is not certain. "Worryingly, there are some indications that that could slip into the mid 2030s", said Alan Denby from Torbay Council. "That's a real problem for the council in that we declared that we wanted to be carbon neutral by 2030.""

And yet you allow others to impose their “beliefs” on you every single day of your life…..
