Why don't the Big 3 and others install REAL exhaust headers on their vehicles (as an option priced item) at the factory instead of we buyers having to resort to after markets? I mean this new Mustang Shelby is a prime example. More HP right from the factory w/o the hassles associated with after market parts/installations/costs?

Who says it doesn't have the same kind of manifold like the GT and we will still have to get aftermarket headers? lol

As for why, I would imagine it's a cost of production reason mostly. May effect emissions and noise restrictions as well.

catalytic converters needs to be mounted close to the engine. closer it is, the faster it warms-up and starts working. this rules out long tube factory headers. fancy shorty headers don't make a lot of hp vs cheap-looking random-looking stock shorty headers.

I'd agree. Too many very costly engineering challenges to overcome.
Doing it "right" with quality SS that would meet Fords durability standards would be very expensive, and that isn't even getting into the stuff like emissions and the additional amount of time it would add to get the engine dressed and mounted on the assembly line. Its a whole different game for the automakers then it is for the aftermarket.

That's ideal for sure. The stock headers on the s65 are pretty much perfect. Keep in mind though that it still uses a XPC so it might not be plausible with the FPC exhaust configuration

Hi guys,

it is my first post on this forum!

I am a Bimmer guy,I find it nice to see you guys speek about the BMW S65.

The OEM 5.0 coyote headers are,in my opinion, real great units.Lot of research
and knowledge got into them.It is a crime to replace them with 4-1 long tubes
unless your 5.0 is REALLY hi-rpm dedicated.

I wonder where I could find some OEM 5.0 Coyote headers and for how much?
I for now wont buy anything(no $) but would like ball park figures and ideas.
All I can find when I google ''5.0 Coyote headers'' is f*&#ing 4-1 headers.

If cheap,I would attemp to fit them to a M60/M62 BMW V8.The center to center
distance between our V8 is only 2mm different(100mm vs 98mm) and firing
order is the same.I would make flanges ect...

The S65 headers are great but no go,firing order is different than other BMW V8.

Thanks guy!

The 2013-14 GT500s have American Racing LT Headers

Link to these specs? I cannot imagine Ford would even do anything like that to a production vehicle, let alone warranty it.

Iron monstrosities are quiet, durable, and contain heat.
All headers have drawbacks. More engine compartment heat, more noise, greater chance of exhaust leakage and greater chance of cracking. Long tube headers also lose more heat that is needed at the O2 sensors. Ford has actually installed factory headers on many performance cars of years past. One that comes immediately to mind was my first car, a '69 Cortina GT.
